Recon 1 4" S35VN Razor-Sharp Blade 5.375" G-10 Handle Tactical Folding Knife w/Tri-Ad Lock, Ambidextrous Pocket/Belt Clip

I can’t say enough good about this knife! 5 stars is not even close to enough! I’ve had kershaw’s CKRT’s ZT’s and spyderco’s nothing comes close to this cold steel in s35vn the corrosion resistance is insane! The amount of sweat water and dirt that I’ve exposed this thing to in the last 2 weeks any other knife would have needed serious maintenance and preventative treatment multiple times I put some rainx and some grease on this when I got it and there isn’t a speck of corrosion on it! It’s big but feels amazing in the hand comfortable and control able the thickness of the blade is great and gives it the unique ability to gravity deploy but remains unbelievably light! There is no blade play at all locks up like Fort Knox and it wasn’t a razor out of box but I put new edge on it, which it took very well and didn’t take long with a diamond stone and it retains that edge well so the blade material is amazing for me Finally value this knife is probably going to out last it’s g10 handle which is crazy to get such a large and sturdy knife for under 200 bucks is insane! I wouldn’t carry any other folding knife!

Other reviewers have already said it all--this knife is a well-designed workhorse. Cold Steel is now knocking the ball out of the park with their sub-$100 S35VN knives--it's outstanding steel that takes a razor edge and keeps it (typically found in knives costing double). I went with the plain-edge tanto version...At first I was going to buy the tanto with a 50/50 serrated edge but then noticed it has a single bevel (it is only ground on one side of the blade for its entire length). Not a big deal, it's just not what I prefer. About the only time serrations come in handy for me is when I'm cutting a lot of rope cordage, and I feel the plain edge has more utility. I'm simply a retired old fart who likes useful knives, but I've read that the Recon 1 Tanto is the preferred folding knife for many special operations personnel--Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Delta, CIA, etc. The triad lock is the best in the business--it's as strong as a fixed blade knife. I own around 70 knives including some that cost over $200 (ZT, Spyderco, Benchmade), but if I were marooned on a desert island this is the one I would pick, no question. It takes up some pocket space (though it's thinner than other Cold Steel knives) and it is not a "gentlemen's folder"-- it is just a sharp, beautifully-engineered, heavy duty, unbreakable cutting machine. If you ever wind up on Gilligan's Island, this is the knife you will want. Update: At first I was rather disappointed at the difficult opening and closing of this knife...however after two months, a couple drops of oil and perhaps 200 one-handed openings/closings it has loosened up and is slick as snot. I added a Snaggletooth Emerson hook and it comes out of my pocket fully opened.

This knife is a beast! With 4 inches of cutting edge and a strong tip with the classic american tanto shape made popular by Cold Steel themselves, this thing can do some real damage. Initially i wanted to get the Recon M1 (Magnacut) but after reading through several reviews, I went with the Recon 1 (S35VN) instead. Even though Magnacut is the better steel, the Recon 1 made in Taiwan is a better knife than the ones coming from Italy. The lockup on this knife is something to be seen to believe, it’s more secure than Ft Knox. Unfortunately that also means that the spring for the Tri-Ad lock is super stiff needs to be broken in. There are several videos on how to take the knife apart and bend the steel spring so that its not so stiff but the easiest way I found was to leave the knife open overnight, that added a little bit of give in the knife that I found was perfect. The handles are super comfortable and the weight is excellent for a knife of this size. The geometry on the tanto shaped blade is perfectly done, Cold Steel being the OG in that blade design in USA. I got this well under the standard price making it a no brainer and I am sure I will get years of use out of it. Mind you this a big knife so probably not the best option for edc even though it is perfectly doable.

Cold Steel Recon 1 is absolutely a thick extremely sharp piece of CPM S35VN steel that's crazy sharp and this steel is not about to give up.. This is a absolute amazing knife for the money, probably one of if not the best and I say thay from many years of personal experience in hand to hand sellf defense. With the S35VN steel which is truly amazing blade steel and one of the most absolute smoothest functioning non assisted folders fresh out of the box is something that's tough to beat. This is my EDC folder or even going out into the woods for a hike this is the blade will do you right. Remember this is not full tang knife but with the Triad Lock system it's as close as you're going to get to actually being a fixed blade with a full tang, it's that good. I have Cold Steel Recon 1's S35VN tantos and Cold Steel Recon M1 Clip point in Magnacut hand made in Italy which is a dream of a EDC knive. Anyone of those knives are as good as it gets and far better knives for the money than most anything else out there. Certainly nothing better, maybe as good but that's very debatable to say the least. If you need a EDC that's a extremely excellent self defense tactical blade you are going to be tough to come close to this in longevity/dependability and awesome blade steal with a unbeatable locking system. Then you ad the price and you just can't compare. Own a 300 dollar knife for a fraction of that price and have a better knife in the end by far..... No matter the price of the knife you can't beat the real world use with a Cold Steel!

The lock: I got this one recently so my review so far will be first impression's and some testing up to this point more will happen as time goes by. So...the locking feature I will say off the bat I wanted to hate it and almost thought I was going to it was stiff and very hard to unlock. However after manipulating it several dozen times on various says ether I am getting used to it or its loosening up I got to say I am starting to like it nothing is going to break that lock from the day to day uses and even trying to break that lock would take some serious work indeed. Handles: It is a very textured grip almost to much in my opinion not quite overly but almost which for me works well. So far it with the clip hasn't thus far damaged or ripped my shorts or worn them out but that might take longer to determine that will comment more on that at a later date. Blade: the blade came out of the box razor sharp it cuts clean with very little effort its for one of my self defense knifes and I don't plan on testing it on wood or anything like that so it will be a while before I can say if the blade holds up to harsh use ((maybe when I go hunting I can say more working on setting it up at some point)) over all its light weight sturdy construction for long as I have had it I love it is it going to replace all the knifes I need no but it is one that I am Every day carrying for sure and being a knife lover and typically carries several different blades on myself every day for different purposes unless time proves otherwise Its one I "Highly recommend"

So I just got this knife but I might change my review if anything comes up. First thing out of the box this knife is a little stiff. Also first thing out of the box I tried closing it one handed. Not a good idea with a lock back style knife (I know it’s a tri-ad) but I figured it’s a little stiff so not a problem and it then dropped shut on my finger. Also a first impression man is this thing is sharp. Haven’t done that much cutting with it but it’s handled everything I’ve thrown at it like a champ. Oddly it became smooth while opening and developed a bit of lock stick, so no one handed closing for now. It feels very secure in the hand and there’s no flex in the scales/handle despite there being no liners and it only being G10. The finger groves also fit comfortably in my hand I have no problems with them. The tri-ad lock is kinda like a lock back but not quite. It definitely is easier to manipulate the blade open but a little weird to close it. On mine, and it might work it self out, it requires a little bit more force to really make sure that it is unlocked. For me I sort of feel less secure about closing it two handed because it require so much force that I am afraid I’ll push the blade into my finger that are holding it.. If it’s a major issue I will return it and update this review. For now I really like this knife it’s quite solid and no other problems which I expect go with time

Cold Steel has achieved another home run with this model. For me, the overall size is just right: not to large and not too small. The handle's texture and configuration is ideal. You get a grip that is comfortable and secure. Their locking system is a thing of beauty and may well be the best and most secure locking system of any folding knife - ever! When the blade locks open, it does so with an audible "CLICK" and a feel that lets you know it's not going to close until you make it happen. The blade is a tad stiff to open, but that's a good thing. It will smooth out in time. It does take a bit of effort to close the blade, but again this is a good thing because it reminds one of how rock solid and secure the mechanism is. The 4" blade is razor sharp, so use caution while handling. The pocket clip is typical Cold Steel. It has heavy tension and will keep the knife in place. I tend to use a belt pouch for knives of this size, but this one is slim, lightweight and carries well in a pocket, so either way you'll be fine. I don't know what kind of finish the blade has, but it appears to be a quality job. It's not some cheap powder coating or other such finish that will wear off easily. Another great feature is the steel itself. S35VN is a high grade steel that is durable, strong, and fairly easy to sharpen. You get a lot for you money with this steel. In summation, I like everything about this knife. Ounce for ounce, dollar for dollar, this is true bargain. I've had and seen folders costing a lot more that were not this nice. If you are on the fence about this knife, hop down and get one ordered. You cannot go wrong. God Bless America and stay safe out there!

Not what I expected. I should have done my research. I assumed it had steel liners not just G10 not sure if that affectse the durability. The knife feels cheap in hand and also light which is good. It’s sharp and a large knife which I knew it was. The lock is awesome and locks up is positive and strong The handle feels cheap with an an only G10 handle and no liners inside. It’s definitely a robust knife The SR1 is similar but has liners and about 35$ more. However I can’t knock the knife because I failed to do my research. 3 stars because the handle feels cheap. Maybe over time I’ll change my opinion. It doesn’t go well in the pocked easy due to the aggressive textured blade find a nylon sheath, it will carry better Update April 12, 2019. I changed from 3 stars to 5. I used this knife on several occasions and it is super strong. It’s lock up is solid even after abuse of splitting and cutting wood for the fire place. The wood was dry and probably 1-3 in diameter. The knife has been in water and some snow. I felt at first due to no liners it would t be so strong. I was wrong it’s an excellent knife well worth the money

Ich hatte zuvor ein EDC Messer der 100€+ Klasse mit Axis-Lock System, bei dem nach einem Monat Nutzung beide Federn gebrochen sind, was das Messer nutzlos machte. Entsprechend wählerisch war ich bezüglich der Klingenarretierung für einen Nachfolger, wobei Linerlock zuerst mein Favorit war. Das Tri-Ad Lock von Cold Steel arretiert solide und hat auch keine Kleinteile, die leicht brechen können. Die Klinge zu lösen geht tatsächlich schwergängig, aber ich bevorzuge dies gegenüber schwächeren Alternativen. Außerdem habe ich festgestellt, dass es sich bereits nach kurzer Zeit einspielt und sich das Lösen angenehmer gestaltet. Auch der verwendete Klingenstahl kommt meiner Wunschvorstellung sehr nahe, auch wenn mir der klassische 440c lieber gewesen wäre. Das Messer kam scharf out of the box und bestand den ersten Schnitttest am Versandumschlag mit Bravour. Alles in allem wirkt das Messer wertig, solide, gut verarbeitet und ist scharf. Das Tri-Ad Lock arretiert zuverlässig, stabil und macht nicht den Eindruck in naher Zukunft seinen Dienst zu versagen. Ich bin mit dem Kauf mehr als zufrieden.

Assim que chegou eu não gostei da empunhadura muito longa, que fica sobrando até em quem tem mãos grandes, as placas G10 não chegam aos pés de muitos produtos mais refinados que encontramos nos EUA e Europa, e uma coisa que me fez odiá-lo logo de cara, a ponto de quase devolvê-lo... Vamos lá... Assim que chegou se notava como algo bruto, sem nenhum refinamento, abertura áspera e a trava Tri-Ad Lock era uma decepção, pois era dura de uma forma que se tornava inviável abri-lo sem machucar os dedos, além da dureza desta tornar o fechamento muito inseguro, já que esta barra tensionadora também é responsável pelo impulso à lâmina para que esta seja levada até sua posição inercial. Tanto abrindo como fechando parecia uma guilhotina com uma força desnecessária, e seguramente, qualquer mínima falta de atenção poderia ocasionar um acidente. Decidi desmontar tudo utilizando chaves T6 e T10 (Torx) e pude notar que as arandelas de latão e também as de teflon estavam secas, sem nenhum óleo (esse modelo usa duas sobrepostas de cada lado da lâmina). A barra de metal que tensiona a trava Tri-Ad Lock estava com uma curvatura muito mais acentuada que o necessário para o bom funcionamento do conjunto, tornando a abertura completamente dura e também deixando a abertura e fechamento perigosos como relatado acima. Despois de suavizar as curvaturas da barra tensionadora e lubrificar tudo o cenário mudou completamente, aí sim pude começar a perceber os detalhes de algo realmente admirável. Mesmo o G10 sendo bruto, se entende por ser um modelo mais direcionado ao uso táctico. A lâmina possui uma espessura bem razoável e o desenho de desbaste é no mínimo muito bem feito e bonito. Não possui um revestimento que se possa chamar de resistente como se vê em modelos Spyderco ou até na pequena faca espanhola fabricada pela Cudeman que exponho na foto, e que possui um simples acabamento oxidado (o mesmo utilizado em muitas armas de fogo) e pode ser refeito facilmente pelo usuário. O desbaste da lâmina é plano, mas algumas vezes me pergunto se é algo côncavo. Não veio muito afiada de fábrica, mas não isso não será um problema. O aço norte-americano CPM S35VN da Crucible dispensa comentários, é um aço classificado como premium (não ultra premium como o Maxamet, Magnacut, Elmax, CPM S110V, M390 dentre outros), mas possui uma excelente retenção de fio, embora isso seja um ônus na hora de afiar, mas nada que um kit de afiação Lansky ou até afiadores diamantados não resolvam. A tenacidade também é excelente, assim como a resistência à corrosão, além de possuir uma dureza razoável que fica entre 60 e 61HRC utilizando 0,50% de nióbio em sua composição. Logicamente seria muito interessante que a Cold Steel atualizasse este modelo para o aço CPM S45VN, que possui melhorias se comparado ao primeiro, pois utiliza 0,15% de nitrogênio para esta melhora. Bem... Mesmo sendo quase uma faca de bolso, devido a seu tamanho, eu o tenho utilizado no dia a dia e só deixo de levá-lo quando o bolso é pequeno, circunstancia onde dou preferencia ao modelo P105 da Ruike, que só pra comentar, é um excelente canivete. Este Ruike é uma verdadeira obra de arte, sem falar no sistema de rolamentos que faz que a abertura seja extremamente rápida e suave. Com certeza um dos melhores canivetes em custo benefício, deixando coisas como o RAT1 e 2 em AUS-8 para trás.

Canivete de Ótima qualidade já usei por meses e continua sendo uma ótima ferramenta.

Aunque no es tan tosca o imponente como otras navajss CS, de verdad es una muy buena navaja, es fuerte, es ligera, delgada, su punta en tanto la hace muy ideal para combate y el material premium de su hoja y mango la hace una herramienta increíble y una pieza de colección obligatoria para los amantes de la marca CS
