Captain America Epic Collection: The Man Who Sold The United States

Jack Kirby - and Frank Robbins too!
This Epic Collection presents mid-70's Captain America stories, with consistently good writing by Steve Engelhart. I imagine many folks will pick up this volume for the Jack Kirby issues, which are satisfying, but I also really enjoy Frank Robbins' art in the 1st half. Robbins is a bit of an acquired taste - he tended to portray characters stretching out in unbelievable and odd postures (even by comic book standards!), but his style has definitely grown on me. One thing he does really well is convey intense expressions - compare the difference between Madame Hydra/Viper as introduced by Sal Buscema - forbidding, sure, but Robbins version in the following issue is downright scary. Check out this volume, I bet you'll enjoy it too.
