It got me up and running quickly - This has helped me a lot in developing a website. Maybe for those designers that want to make more sophisticated sites, there may not be enough information, but for my basic site, it is great. It got me up and running quickly. I am sure that I didn't always do things the best way because I just pieced through the information, but it got the job done. Review: ... the Table of Contents and index makes this a good reference book - The combination of the Table of Contents and index makes this a good reference book. Only 4 stars because I feel that there was not enough information on CSS commands to position elements like images, etc. It used to be so easy with tables and the html command "center," which is gone. Yes, the book has information on positioning, but it spread all through the book. I was looking for a chapter or two on all the options. For example, the Display function in Layout has 19 options! I wanted a list of the 19 and what each is used for. Oh well, Adobe doesn't have it in their online help either. Still, it is a nice reference book. I got the digital version for ease of searching, but then got the 1,070 page "HTML5 and CSS3 All in one for Dummies" in print expecting more on layout, but it is scattered too.

This book is a major disappointment!
This book is an aberration from the format and clean explanations in the Dummies series. In the past I have purchased other books "for Dummies" because they provide good references for details about the subjects in question. This book on Dreamweaver CC does not. The Index is thin, to say the least which compounds the problem for those who are looking for references to specific features of the program. To get a sense of how frustrated I am, this is the first review I have written in over ten years for any book or product I have purchased on Amazon.

Dreamweaver CC For Dummies by Janine Warner
The content seems fine, about what I'd expect so far, but I'm really just getting started. Trying to get a hosting site setup on an Adobe subscription now so I can actually put a site on the web and go from there. One problem I do have with the book is probably a publisher problem: I need at least one full power higher magnification on my reading glasses to see the figures (1x for the text and 2x for the figures) which is a pain in the parking place! The last book I was reading was the same though, a Photoshop book by Scott Kelby. If they made the figures fit the page width instead of having 2" margins on both sides, and sometimes double columns, text on the figures could be made more consistent with the rest of the text size, and that would be a WHOLE LOT more user friendly!

I bought this book as a companion reference book to the Adobe Dreamweaver CC Classroom in a Book which I have just worked through. This Dummies book has a comprehensive index at the back and is therefore useful for checking some detail that you may have forgotten. Being printed on semi-gloss paper, the colour illustrations are superlative. The author herself writes "You don't have to read through this book cover to cover ... [it is] a quick study guide and a reference you can return to", and she has got this exactly right. As a beginner to Dreamweaver, I do not think I could have learnt Dreamweaver from this book alone, nor do I think the author intended this. However, having finished and set aside my Classroom in a Book, I have been referring to this book and the Adobe web site every time I need to check some detailed point. Highly recommended.

This book helped me a lot to get around the new interface for Dreamweaver CC. Also I enjoy Janine Warner's books and classes as well. She is amazing :)

If you are a complete beginner, I would imagine learning Dreamweaver CC could be a fairly daunting prospect. You really would not have a clue where to start. The majority of the web design industry seems to have the hump with Adobe since it switched from the "buy-our-software" model to the new "rent-our-software" scheme. I don't know if this is the reason but if you search YouTube for Dreamweaver CC tutorials there are very few indeed. Compare this to the older Dreamweaver CS6, their last DVD-ROM-in-a-box release. There are scores of tutorials for that. In fact, the only video available for a while was one promoting this Dummies book. Consequently, lacking any other cheap means of learning the software I bought the Kindle version. I should declare an interest, I am quite a fan of the Dummies series. This must be about my 10th purchase, including books about previous versions of Dreamweaver. I am writing this short review therefore from the perspective of somebody who wanted detailed instructions on anything which is new or has changed from the last version. I am not wet behind the ears with Dreamweaver. With a fair bit of searching, in the last 3 weeks or so, I have successfully managed to find all the information I need. The explanations were fairly clear to me but, as mentioned, I am not a beginner. My main criticism is that the assumption is made that every reader is a total novice. It would have been nice to have a short chapter for designers who know previous versions inside out. People who just want to know where the old buttons and favourite tools are located in the new version. In their quest for simplification, Adobe have actually removed some previous functionality completely, one small example is the "Classic View" and the "Designer View". They are gone and there are many similar instances. This sort of information would have really helped me. Instead, I was obliged to search in vain in the preferences section. Of course, I appreciate that space is limited and if this is your first attempt at learning the program, where things used to be is of no consequence. With that small proviso, I like this book. I found the Kindle version very useful as it contains links to other sections of this lengthy tome. That makes it a lot easier and quicker to use than the physical copy. Of course it is also a darn sight lighter. In the absence presently of any classes, video courses or any alternative ways of learning Dreamweaver CC, I would recommend this book.

I got Dreamweaver CC and I'm a dummy. No, not for subscribing to Adobe Creative Cloud - that's a whole other argument. Learning new tech always fills me with dismay. Anyway, I need to revise and update my business website. I know a little about CSS and HTML, but don't intend to pay any more charlatan 'web design' companies for their smoke and mirror stuff. Book is reading really well and I'm managing to put the information to good use. Thank you Janine Warner and Amazon Kindle. Enough said. Five stars.
