Mat GOOD - Shipping/Packaging TERRIBLE
I've gone through dozens of mats over the years - this one appears to be an excellent product and will hopefully last more than a year as others have not done.My NEGATIVE comment regards the packaging and shipping. I was pleased to see the mat arrived "flat", not rolled up. HOWEVER - the "box" used to pack the mat in was essentially a VERY large box that was folded flat, rather then shaped as a "box", and the mat was placed inside. The result was that the box was at least 1.5 times as large as needed, and the mat slipped around easily inside. As a result of that, the mat's sharp edges cut through all the tape used to hold the box closed, and ended up with the mat being exposed to the dust and detritus of the UPS delivery van - every bit of the tape was cut by the mat's sliding around. The poor delivery driver, when trying to retrieve the "box", ended up with the mat slipping out of the protective(??) cardboard, and falling out. He desperately tried to control the mat/cardboard as he brought it to my home, with little success.Would I buy again? Yes - but ONLY if Amazon packages this product with FAR more care...recent packaging on Amazon shipments has really gone downhill...fast.

Its Ok but I'm keeping my fingers crossed
I really thought this was the chair mat for me but after a week, I'm not so sure. We have carpet in our house that is 1-inch thick so we knew we were not going to be able to use our old mat. I did my research and decided that this mat would be more than adequate since it is labeled "Extra High Pile Carpet Performance Series" and is advertised by Amazon and ES Robbins as protection for carpets "more than 1-Inch thick including padding."It is a very thick and heavy piece of material so I had high hopes for success but as you can see from the picture, it will get and hold dents. I'm not sure how long before it cracks but if it is denting already, I'm sure it won't be long. Some specifics about use - I weigh ~185 lbs, use a chair with dual plastic wheels, sit in it about 6 hours a day, and the mat has been in use for exactly 1 week. The dents that you seen in the picture were there this morning before I started my day so it has been about 9 hours since I last sat in that chair. As you can see, the mat has not returned to its original flat state. In the second photo you can see how the mat was shipped from Amazon in a rolled up state. I read reviews where people had problems with that and tried to request that the mat be shipped flat, but that didn't happen. I called ES Robbins and spoke with a Customer Service (CS) person regarding the shipping procedure and was told that they too ship the larger mats rolled up in order to cut down on shipping costs. The CS rep. then stated that if I lay the mat flat and apply heat using a blow dryer or other heat source the mat will flatten out. Or you can lay it flat and wait 24-72 hours for it flatten at room temperature. Luckily it was a warm day here (Florida), so I laid the mat out in the sun on the patio and in about 2-hours it was perfectly flat.Overall, I'm giving it 3 stars because it is protecting my carpet however, I don't think it is going to last very long. The little "anchor bar cleats" are working as advertised as I haven't had any movement from the position that I placed the mat in. Next time I guess I will have to purchase something rigid like the bamboo slats or make a mat from some leftover wood flooring. I will update when it cracks.

The rug is pretty densely woven but it does flex underfoot more than ...
Now that's a chair mat! This chair mat replaced one in my home office where I have an oriental style rug with a carpet mat under it. The rug an mat combination are about 3/4" thick which makes it "high pile" by the descriptions I read. The rug is pretty densely woven but it does flex underfoot more than a "low pile" carpet would. I purchased the original chair mat about 5 years ago at one of the local big box office supply stores and it had pretty severely cracked where the chair wheels roll and pieces were starting to come loose.I really was conflicted about spending $140 for a chair mat (I wanted something that would last but, really, $140 to $250 for a high pile chair mat??,,,iIt's basically just a sheet of plastic, for heaven's sake.) so I spent a good bit of time researching options. In the end, I went for this $80 option and I am 5-star pleased. This new chair mat is about 50% thicker than the old, 0.220" for the new mat versus 0.140" each measured with a dial caliper (all that research really stirred up my inner-geek). I am happy to report that the new mat is much more rigid than the old mat, both when I step on it and when I roll over it in my chair. After a week, the chair wheels make only shallow indentations which rebound back to flat as soon as the chair is moved. This mat came rolled up and it took some time and a little heat from a heat gun to flatten it out. Fortunately, the roll was done the right way (with the top side facing out) so that the mat wanted to "cup" toward the carpet. My one gripe is that the mat had two extra stickers on it that didn't easily peel off and left adhesive residue. Windex wouldn't budge the adhesive and using solvents on plastic can damage plastic so I didn't want to use paint thinner. A little Old English Lemon Oil furniture cleaner removed the adhesive easily and doesn't seem to have affected the plastic in any way (no hazing, no crazing).

Decent mat but chair wheels sink into the plastic on plush pile carpet.
Decent mat but chair wheels sink into the plastic on plush pile carpet. I am a big guy but this was supposed to be the heavy duty one. Not happy for my application. Will replace with a different product. Also didn't like it took a week to get mat to unroll and lay flat. Had to stack furniture on it for 4 days to flatting it out.
