Deadlands: Hunted (The Deadlands, 1)

Perfect book series for a Dino nerd, loved seeing my boyfriend’s face when I got the trilogy for him. Warning there is a lot of big words that even he had issues pronouncing, so might be difficult for younger children to read, but a good series nonetheless.

Great book my child loves it

This is definitely aimed at younger audiences but I still enjoyed this book. The action scenes were creative, and Eleri is the perfect choice of protagonist in this book! All the ways he was using his small size and speed to trick opponents were fun to read, and the rest of the group was amazing too. Zyre was a good second protagonist, I would've preferred Tortha though to be honest. She's a great character, and definitely my favorite of the whole group! Sorielle was fun, her extreme positivity did get a bit excessive at times though. I did love the one scene where she suddenly goes from extremely cheerful to analyzing Zyre's story and immediately pointing out how she'd lied to them. The sauropod was interesting but got a bit boring after a while. They don't really do much other than standing around and saying cryptic things. For the world, it was well set up and very interesting! The whole "carnivores are evil and need to be stopped!!!" Is a bit of an overdone trope and a bit unfair considering they'd literally die if they didn't, but the rest of the world was super interesting. I found the idea of dinosaur kingdoms really interesting, and their differing cultures and lives was fun to read about. The growing conspiracy was also interesting, so it'll be fun to see how that develops.

This action packed fantasy is great for adventure lovers and dino lovers! In a time after the Fallen Star (the meteor), some dinosaurs have survived and have also gained sentience. They have formed factions and have learned to love in a mostly barren landscape. But they have also been invoved in a seemingly never-ending war. Eleri is a dreamer, who wishes to one day be a storyteller, not a soldier. When he inadvertently warns an enemy of a looming attack, he gets branded a traitor and exiled to The Deadlands. There, he meets up with a rag-tag group and they have to work together to try to bring peace to the kingdom. This is a great start to the series. I enjoyed the characters, as well as the dinosaur facts I picked up along the way. I found myself taking to google to see what these characters might look like, or how big they'd be, Thanks to Netgalley and the Macmillan Children's Publishing for an early copy for review!

My 10 year old really enjoyed this book. So much that he begged for the next one! I will say buying here was much cheaper than buying from the bookstore. 10/10 recommend!

My son is obsessed with the wings of fire books, and I read that this series was good for people who like those books. The characters are dinosaurs instead of dragons but my son read all three of them and then his brother also read them. Ages 9 and 12. Definitely recommended for your young fantasy reader.

My son absolutely loves this book! As soon as he finished it, he asked for books 2 and 3 for his birthday. Anything that gets him this excited about reading—and off his screens—is a win in my book. Highly recommend for young readers!
