A Terrific Boudica Revolt Outcome!
This excellent Roman historical novel is the 22nd volume of the ever entertaining "Eagles of the Empire" series, featuring Cato & Macro, from the formidable author, Simon Scarrow. At the beginning of the book you'll find a well-drawn map of the Roman Province of Britannia in AD61, as well as a Chain of Command, followed by a Cast List, while at the back you'll notice an Author's Note, where the historical details concerning this period of history are superbly explained by the author.Storytelling is once again of incredible quality, all figures, whether real historical or fictional, come vividly to life in this tale about power, insurrection, survival and death, shown in clashes within the Romans and between the Roman Legions under the leadership of Governor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus and the massive hordes of tribal warriors under the leadership of Queen Boudica of the Iceni. This book is set in AD61, with both Cato and Macro in different circumstances, while Boudica and her tribes have set their eyes on the destruction of what Rome represents in Britannia."Rebellion" is a continuation of its predecessor "Death to the Emperor", where the native tribes with at their head Queen Boudica of the Iceni have started their revolt and in their midst is veteran Centurion Macro as her prisoner, while at the other side of Britannia, at Mona to be exact, Prefect Cato will hear of the revolt and under the leadership of General Suetonius Paulinus and what is left of the Legions they will march towards Londinium and try to save what can be saved.Arriving in Londinium the Romans will see that it can't be saved with the hordes of Queen Boudica on the brink of, and actually destroying it, while Governor Suetonius Paulinus and his men, with Cato and, after escaping from the clutches of Boudica, Macro in their midst, are fleeing Londinium to find a save place, and after some desperate clashes and near escapes they will settle for a certain site to confront the tribal warriors of Queen Boudica. What is to follow is a tremendous retelling of the Boudica insurrection and its final ultimate battle, in which our heroes, Cato and Macro, will excel, and where Romans and rebels will die in their thousands, all in a desperate bid to win this decisive encounter, and all this is brought to us in a most believable and gripping fashion.Highly recommended, for this is an amazing addition to this wonderful series, and that's why I like to call this episode: "A Terrific Boudica Revolt Outcome"!

A thrilling and moving account of a devastating rebellon
I think that this book is the best of Simon Scarrow's "Eagles of Empire" series. It describes the rebellion of Boudicca, Queen of the Iceni, against Rome in 61 CE. While one of our heroes, Cato, is a leading figure in the understrength Roman legions rushing back from crushing the Druids in Mona. The other hero Macro is about to be sacrificed to the Iceni god on the orders of a vengeful Boudicca (Macro's one time lover). What makes the book such compelling reading is that you really feel how the carnage caused by the rebellion impacted on ordinary people; the thousands of refugees, those that had a stake in the new province of Britannia, the shamed Roman army in retreat from a sacked Londinium. You can almost smell the rebellion; the fear, the flames, the battles. Even though many readers will know the ultimate outcome "Rebellion" is a must read for lovers of this genre.

The Iceni Rebellion
A believable account of the sacking of Roman cities and the final battle! Macro and Cato in their usual scrapes and near misses. Loved it!

As brilliant as ever.
These books are as enjoyable now as they were when I first started reading them. (His War time German novels are great too even though it wasn't a time period I was that interested in)!Excellent story, history and camaraderie!

Terrific Series
Simon Scarrow has once again written a great chapter of the Macro/Cato series. Rebellion was written during the Boudica Rebellion and was very entertaining with lots of twists and turns. Macro and Cato once again face life altering scenerios and fight their way through them. Battle scenes were excellent and the carnage and results, to both sides, huge. A highly recommended read!

Rebellion--The Epic Story Continues
As usual, Simon Scarrow utilizes his vast knowledge of Roman history to continue the saga of Cato and Macro. Scarrow is a great writer and I have enjoyed all of the Eagles books. Especially the ones involving Britannia. I highly recommend the Eagles series and I'm looking forward to more on Cato and Macro.

Börjar att bli lite långrandig.
Efter typ 22 böcker så tycker man att det är färdigmjölkat i deras äventyr.

Just a good read
I'm not familiar with the exact history of Boudica's uprising. It is not my field of expertise. Still, the author's descriptions are very atmospheric and suit the times well. The rest is as awesome as ever. I look forward to The next part.
