AltraMen's Lone Peak 8 Wide AL0A85P3 Trail Running

Great for everyday
I bought these for everyday walking so I can't really assess them as trail running shoes. The main draw for me is the wide toebox. If you're not familiar with Altra you'll find that they have a little bit of a Donald Duck look to them because of this but you'll get used to it and no-one rolls around laughing. I have a bunion due to decades wearing cramped, cheap shoes and I wish I'd been wearing these all that time. Barefoot/minimalist purists may not like them as they have some cushioning and a bit of roll in the step but they are so, so comfortable. I had a pair from the same brand previously and wore them until the soles fell off. When that happened, I had to make do with a pair of cheap(-ish) walking shoes from Decathlon; the difference is like night and day. I hadn't realised quite how uncomfortable walking had become until I started with these.I chose the blue/black colour and it's as restrained as I hoped. The shoes look fairly smart at the moment though I expect they'll get mashed in the countryside.I hope and expect them to last well as the cost is not insignificant. My previous pair were only binned because of the soles: the uppers remained pretty much intact even after a number of years.Very happy with purchase and would buy again.EDIT: 3 months in and I have a small hole in the upper in the right foot above where the big toe sits. A little disappointing; the material is quite flimsy, it appears. Ideally, I suppose, the toe should sit under the reinforced toe of the shoe but, given the difference in foot size, these are the best fit for me. Nevermind: I've patched the hole inside with Gorilla tape to stop it getting bigger. It doesn't substantively change my opinion as most of my footwear ends up as much hole as shoe.
