This will change laptops as we know them
I've expected this form factor for a while now. I saw the writing on the wall 10 years ago and I understood why they couldn't exist then. I was really wondering how the touchscreen keyboard was going to play out when these dual screens start coming to the mainstream and Asus solved that issue entirely on the first try. In order to make the products we dream of we have to work around the battery limitations and up till about 3 years ago, this concept just wasn't possible without making it very thick and heavy. The advancements made in power management have been significant and Intel now offers a powerful 9 Ultra SoC that sips battery usage. I review laptops that are sent to me all the time (not for Amazon) and some have cutting-edge tech but nothing like the Asus UX8406. Asus gets so much right that it is hard to find a fault in anything. They have covered just about every little thing that you could complain about. Since I mentioned the keyboard first, lets start with that. The typing experience is probably the best I have ever tried. You truly sacrifice nothing. The key travel, backlighting, and terrific touchpad that supports gestures all come together to make for an amazing input experience. When disconnected from the laptop, you can burn through the keyboard battery in 45 minutes if you use the backlight heavily. Asus thought of that scenario already and offers a USB C charge port built-in on the side of the keyboard. So if you need to have backlight, you can. The dual 3K 120 MHz displays look as good as you would expect they would. I would easily say that they have no equal as far as laptop displays go. You can crank up the resolution and use Windows zoom to about 150% and get excellent results. On to the new Intel Arc 8 core graphics chip. This thing games! GTAV, Forza 5 Horizon (at the highest resolution), and Ultimate Spiderman are all I've tested but I came away shocked. Its really good. I didn't buy it for games but it's a huge bonus! The Intel 9Ultra and 32GB RAM mean that I'm never waiting for this laptop. It is as fast as you are at commanding it. I have had very few hiccups in performance and since the last BIOS update, I have had zero. My use case is remote IT support and Adobe CC 2024 apps and it handles both exceptionally. Before this laptop, I was using a Surface Studio Laptop 2 and I swear that thing (still under warranty) seems like a relic now. I'm sure that you have your use case in mind if you're shopping for this laptop so I wont gush about the dual screen utility. You probably are like me and are used to carrying a USB monitor or two to create the extra real estate needed for enhanced workflow. Desktop Mode is my go to. There is some decent utility is the included My Asus app and I was surprised how well it worked. RAM dumping. Push one GUI button and dump your RAM. I know you can do this in a command prompt but Asus has this tool and a lot more in the My Asus app. I normally don't give the include manufacturer system app any usage other than driver updates but Asus has something here. To sum it up, I welcome this new category of laptop and look forward to the innovation that will come from this pioneering product. It's great to see a company (or two) breathe some excitement into a market that was all too complacent for way too long.

A few hiccups but overall GREATEST LAPTOP EVER MADE
After a few months working with this amazing piece of hardware, there are a few minor glitches here and there but overall this is an incredible work horse that massively ups your productivity. I'm someone that has carried around a 2nd screen for years finding productivity increases significantly with a second screen. Now, being able to easily set up a 2-display scenario and code is just a dream come true. This machine makes me want to code, makes me want to work. Or if I'm in off work mode and just want to read reddit in one screen and watch football in the other, that's perfect too. There are a few minor hickups here and there but overall worlds better than any macbook or surface on the market, this is THE machine. --- previous review below --- Haven't found anything really to dislike yet (other than Windows 11 lol, 10 is superior). Was wondering how the build quality would be on the first go of a design like this, and so far it seems good. Stand is sturdy, I can prop it up even on my bed. In laptop mode (one screen) it's a little thicker than the single-screen Zenbooks from the last few years. Screens are pretty and very vibrant. Overall another great product from Asus. Why anyone would buy a Lenovo or HP I will never understand. edit: Install "Explorer patcher" for windows 11 to get the superior windows 10 start menu. Rear hinge is fantastic, much stronger and wider than expected. Dual screen mode will even prop up on a bed. Pleasantly surprised.

Dual Screen Powerhouse! Best Investment I've Made
If you work from home or frequently travel for work and rely on multiple screens to stay productive, the Asus Zenbook Duo is a game-changer. I’m genuinely thrilled with my purchase. The dual touchscreen displays are not just a gimmick—they’re a thoughtful and practical innovation that makes multitasking significantly more efficient. The main display is vibrant and crisp, perfect for editing documents, video conferencing, or streaming. But it’s the ScreenPad Plus, the second display, that truly sets this laptop apart. It allows me to keep communication apps, reference documents, or tools like Photoshop layers or video timelines open and accessible without cluttering my primary workspace. It feels like having a dual-monitor setup packed into a portable form factor. The touchscreens are responsive and intuitive, and the stylus support adds another layer of productivity, especially for creative professionals or anyone who takes notes or sketches. The build quality is excellent—solid, sleek, and surprisingly lightweight given the tech it packs. Performance-wise, the Zenbook Duo handles my workflow smoothly, from video editing to running multiple virtual desktops. The keyboard placement takes a little getting used to due to the shifted layout (because of the second screen), but it becomes comfortable quickly, especially with the included palm rest. Battery life is respectable considering the power demands of dual displays, and the fan noise is minimal under most loads. In short, if you're a multitasker, creative, or remote worker who thrives with multiple screens, the Asus Zenbook Duo is one of the best investments you can make. It redefines what a laptop can do.

Well, it was perfect...until...
This laptop was so perfect for working remotely away from my main home office since you had two screen for multi-viewing while tasking. The screens are gorgeous, processor snappy and the detachable keyboard inspired. Sound is "meh" but you should never expect much from a laptop. Everything was great until working one day I hear a "pop" then proceed to see a crack marching across from the side center of the screen. Everything still worked but that crack was crazy and kept growing when the screen stayed on. So, I shut it down and reached out the ASUS support. They were great at the first contact and, given that it was only one month old, fully under warranty for repair. All I had to do was send it in which you have to pay for...not cool thing #1. Not cool thing #2 was that I chose the expensive option to return with next day shipping to make sure I could get it back in the 7-10 day window they quoted. I also paid for next day shipping for returning. $170 bucks in expedited shipping costs later, I handed the beloved laptop over to FedEx for quick delivery. I log in to FedEx the next day and realize that ASUS gave me a GROUND label even though I paid for expedited! So, 6 full days later the laptop showed checked in at the repair center. So, back to ASUS support I go only to find that they had the wrong shipping number and kept telling me that my laptop had not left Seattle. I even uploaded proof with their person's initials for accepting the return. Three days later I chat back with ASUS support and they still have not logged in the laptop which has officially been in their hands for 4 days! Eventually they found it and here I sit still waiting for any word on when I will get it back. Also, no offer to refund my $170 bucks for the expedited shipping I did not receive. So, buyer beware...it's a great device until it does not work and like me, you will be up a creek without a paddle waiting to hear that your laptop is repaired and heading back to you...hopefully with the expedited shipping that you paid extra for. Not holding my breath on that one. So great laptop until it breaks then awful customer service.

Extraordinary performer, even without its neat trick
I had a specific need for multiple touch monitors in a portable fashion (for a theatrical lighting control console), so the timing of this release was perfect. Starting with the cost, there's a lot of value here relative to other machines. For $200 over the base model, you get the faster CPU, twice the RAM and the higher resolution screens. TWO screens. First off, as a typical laptop, the performance is outstanding. For typical browser-based stuff and even software development, eight hours on battery is easy enough, if not more. Gaming has the usual side effects, including lower battery life and lots of heat, which is to be expected. The keyboard is adequately clicky and surprisingly stable considering it's sitting on the other screen. It's a little thicker and heavier than a similar laptop with a single screen, but not so much that it's a problem. And yes, it can even drive another external touch screen. When you peel off the keyboard and use both screens, the experience is very desktop like. If you've got a coffee table or something in front of you, you can even still use the keyboard itself on your lap, though it's not super stable that way. Using it with the screens vertical feels weird, but it's still more space than looking at a phone vertically. It's surprisingly easy to see even when outside, though at that brightness, I assume battery life takes a significant hit. The clarity and vibrancy of the OLED screens is remarkable. Overall, this design is so obvious that I don't understand how it hadn't been done before.

Not perfect, but worth it!
In laptop mode, it performs well and battery life is decent 7+ hours. However in dual screen mode, brightness out-of-the-box is not the same for both screens (not a huge issue for me), it gets a bit warm and battery life is reduced to approx 4 hours. Screen Xpert is not perfect and consumes a lot of resources. I mostly use Chrome and a terminal to connect to SSH servers, and RAM usage is always 20GB+ (I blame mostly Windows and not Asus for this). Glad I did not pick the 16GB model... The 3k screens are beautiful and it will be hard to use another laptop after this one. If you will use an external monitor with the laptop, I would not recommend to use it in dual screen mode since it gets too warm and the fans start to kick in. So either just in laptop mode or turn off the display entirely. Of course it can handle the three screens, but if you use it several hours per day this way it might not be optimal. Coming from a Macbook Air M1 you miss the battery life and the MacOS optimization for memory usage. Nevertheless the extra screen is totally worth it if you work in different places (or even just in different spots at home) for extra productity and ergonomics. Laptop mode is awesome too when needed. So my overall feedback after a few weeks of use is: Not perfect, but worth it!

Great for prductivity if you understand what you're getting
If you tend to work in multiple locations ad hoc and need the convenience of multiple displays, that laptop will give you a flexibility that beats carrying a standard laptop plus an external portable display. When it's closed or used with one screen only, it is just like any other laptop. Working with stacked displays vs. side by side will take a bit of an adjustment (I am usually not a fan of manufacturer software on PCs but Asus utility to manage the multiple screens does help quite a lot). When propped up, the stand does feel very sturdy but it is a table top situation, not a knees / couch situation. If you want to use it in multiple screens mode in a plane, you'll need a business class seat on an international trip... the footprint is not small! Another review mentions the keyboard not standing flat on the bottom display. I did notice that for the first few hours but it eventually fixed itself surprisingly and now the keyboard has no flex and feels very good. The keyboard battery when used in bluetooth mode is not great (4 hours-ish), so drop a short USB cable in your bag. The displays are excellent. The speakers are OK (Dolby Atmos but not much bass). The performances are excellent too (better be based on specs). The touchpad is good, not great but it's large and very serviceable. . The battery life is good for what it is... It is rated for 8 hours of dual screen uses and I doubt it will come close very often, but then again, my only test was to watch a video on the top screen and browsing with multiple tabs on the bottom screen and I must have been close to 6 hours. Acceptable in my book, you shouldn't get that laptop for its battery life, that's not the point. If you know how you want to use it, especially considering the price, this is a solid buy.

Vastly exceeds expectations in performance and coolness. The price point is exceptional as well.
This was a "I need to treat myself" purchase. I've been a programmer since the 70s and the "cool" factor of this style of laptop just won over good sense (so I thought.) I've got the i9, 32g version. It's slicker'n whale...err..."leavings." I sent pictures of it with the keyboard detached to friends and when I finally hung out with them they asked why I didn't bring the 2nd monitor. The wide-eyed "oh my god!" ness when I showed them was worth it. Fun stuff aside, it's really well made. It's not too small to code on (I type really fast.) And, if you don't want to use it in one of it's "funky" configurations then it just looks and feels for all the world like a normal laptop. Performance is impressive. But given the specs, that's almost not worth bothering to say. Admittedly I haven't run taxing benchmarks on it or anything. Just a bunch of processing, coding, database servers and number crunching. A word about the video resolution: It's good enough that I have to have the desktop environment scaled to 200% to be able to see it. And no, that's not just because I'm old ;-) Battery life, even with both screens active, is a clean 5-6 hours active working time which is more than enough for my use. I put Ubuntu Linux on it right out of the gate and was worried about the pen/touchscreen interface support. But it's a non issue. The only thing that would take this from 10/10 to 15/10 is if the screen folded "all the way around" so I could use it like a tablet. But that's REALLY nitpicky. This is a straight up win and will be not only my daily driver, but dev machine for the forseable future. "Can't wait to see what they think of next." - Old guy.
