Not plug and play, but very inexpensive re-keyable solution.

Initial Impressions:What you can't do:- Don't see how these moving parts will work in -40 degree temperatures as the parts will frost up and not work (I live in California, so this isn't a problem)- Use this if you have a woman in the house; look elsewhere. She'll complain about having to spend the extra time entering the combo into the dial, bring up other stuff to complain about, and you'll end up replacing the old locks in ten minutes. Trust me on this one. What you can do:- Rekey or set up your own combo. This doesn't require a locksmith and is very easily done. There are 3 rings. The 2 outer rings have pins (or fly, as they are called in the diagram) that can be set to just about any number within the dial. The inner most ring (the one closest to the outside), has numbered grooves which you can set the number. Now setting the pins/fly/dial to the numbers on the dial will not equal your combo. There is some math involved but Master Lock created a PC utility to simplify this. That utility can be found here:http://www.masterlock.com/combocalc.msi.The tech manual can be found here:http://www.masterdoorlock.com/pdfs/7000-0101_Technical_Manual.pdf.The pins/fly can be dislodged from the dial with the small hex wrench included to start the dislodging, then completely removed with your fingernail. Once you have the combo selected and encoded using the utility, you can start to push them back into place with your fingers, then finish off the job by pressing on a hard surface. If you have a fine point tweezer, this should help greatly. But be very careful here as the parts are tiny, if you drop them, think of the dilemma of finding a needle in a haystack. Personally, I would not use tweezers ad the metal on metal grip could easily slip and you would lose the fly to the haystack. The hardest part about the rekeying was setting the restrictor spring back in place. There are grooves molded into the trim hub that these are tension slotted into. My first attempt at resetting them in place, I did not set them back into the groove and could have damaged the spring. Good thing I didn't. The restrictor spring sits in those grooves with enough tension to allow you to fasten them in place with the screws. Once the screws are in, they shouldn't go anywhere. As for installation, this is a snap. No more difficult than any other deadbolt. The only tricky thing is that the fastening screws are hidden behind the finish plate. To access it, remove the latch with the attached hex wrench, then remove the finish plate with a flat head screwdriver. While this does have technology to prevent some widely used burglary techniques, it does have a dial lock which has been cracked for years. The good news is this does not have a shackle to manipulate like a padlock, but I am sure a talented thief can work around this rendering the security features useless. But I could be wrong. Here are the drawbacks:- You have to dial in the combo as you are leaving to lock your door. Cumbersome to say the least and something that will take a bit to get used to. Takes about 15-20 seconds to dial in the combo moving at a regular speed.- You'll have to reset the lock of you have a door that swings from right to left. Some time is needed to read the instructions to do this.- The color is tinged orange with too much copper rather than a golden brass (nitpicking).- Instructions for unlocking don't tell you after you dial in the 3 number combo, you have to make a 4th 1/4 turn the opposite way to retract the lock. Once this is figured out, the lock becomes easy to use.I'll update this review as necessary.

Good Lock, I didn't grasp the concept until installed.

*by S***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 22, 2013*

I had a difficult time installing this lock on an exterior door, and it could possibly because, first, I could not locaate the instructional video, I used the illustration manual and, it seemed to cover most questions, but what, should have taken 15 minutes, took 4 hours - I know but I have redeemed myself. There were two locks inside of the box one, long the other short . I chose the longer lock for the pre=existing hole and, installed the entire lock on the door in 15 mins. After, doing so, the lock, would not turn either way. I was stuck, I kept taking the lock on and off of the door and finally, before inserting the screws into lock to affix to the door, I rotated the knob then, put in both screws and the lock OPERATED. The next obstacle, I did not know what held the thumb screw on, (found it later) on the carpet, it is a tiny tiny miniature screw that, is applied by the L Allen wrench into the hole located at the bottom of the Thumb Latch, that is why, the lock has to be inserted with the the word TOP facing upwards because, it will require the screw. The Knob on the exterior side of the door rotates and turns, fluid, no problem there, the thumb latch had to be pushed in with force a couple of times to take off the Night Watch, now it's operating, just fine. PROGRAMMING, to change the manufacturer code, was difficult, because, again, I was moving to fast and, not paying attention to all of the steps, even, though I kept checking the instructions. I finally, located the actual installation video and, it was not on the main Masterdoorlock site. Anyway, to change the factory master code, you must first, press the Program button, a small dot located on the interior of the door in the lock until the outside numeric pad flashes blue, then on the double digit key pad, take your time but hurry up, and press the factory code in and each number pushed, the blue light will flash, then press the 5-6 button, AND, you have to hold the 5-6 button down for about 3 seconds, then press enter, the key pad will remain blue, now quickly, but calmly, press in your own new code, then press enter, then quickly, press the new code in again to confirm and press enter, the key pad will then change to bright green to let you know, that you were successful, RED means, try again, but the secret to the programming are code keys, You must hold the code key down for a few seconds, then press enter, and do not allow it to time out. The lock is very sturdy, and it works like this, if you are leaving press the exit button on the inerior side of door at middle and turn the knob, the door will lock in a few seconds behind you, to unlock the door, press in the code turn the knob on the outside of the door and it will open, it's like a combination lock. The Exit button, if pressed will disengage the lock - you will see, because the key pad will turn green and the door will remain open until youl lock it.by code or key and turning the knob. By the way you must press the edge of each each digit on the key using your index finger(single buttons would have been better) or fingernail.I hope this helps someone.
