The description says both 1GB and 2GB.** A: There are actually two model numbers for this device according to Qnap:HS-251-2G: 2GB DDR3L RAMHS-251: 1GB DDR3L RAMOne has 2GB of RAM, the other is 1GB. As an owner of the 1GB I would highly recommend the 2GB. Yes, you can use your PC or Mac to access the files you stored on the QNAP device. Then we have app called Qfile you can download for android or ios devices. The unit comes with an HDMI so you can direct connect the NAS to the TV and watch the content using XBMC. The NAS also support Plex and DLNA, so your other TVs can also watch and play the content via a Media Player like (Smart TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and anything that support DLNA and plex) **Q: If i buy the 1gb version now, can i upgrade it to 2gb later by installing myself 1 additional gb ddr3 ?** A: We only sell the 2GB version now. They do run a little hot under heavy load, but within specified limits, and are reasonably cool when idle. The HDMI out is flawed and doesn't work with any of my TVs and I've tried three different brands and 4 different HDMI cables. However, it does work with my Dell monitor on my PC which has HDMI input. But, the whole reason I purchased this was to view on my TV. They asked me to revert back to an older firmware which tells me they have poor quality assurance in there firmware releases. Would of been nice to have optical audio out or additional options for those of us that don't have HDMI input amps. If you were planning on this being your entertainment center NAS think again.
