Whole Earth Farms Grain Free Small Breed Recipe with Salmon & Whitefish Dry Dog Food

My Yorkie was diagnosed with CHF last week. One of the first questions the vet asked was if he was being fed a grain-free diet. For many years and due to allergies they had been eating Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein dog food. Around the start of 2019, I decided to try some of the newer grain-free diets and they seemed to all do well eating Whole Earth Farms Grain Free Small Breed Salmon and White Fish kibble. In May 2019, one was diagnosed with CT by our vet. He was put on medication and we have struggled over the past few months with his breathing and couching. Last weekend, he was rushed to the vet panting, pacing and having trouble breathing. After Xray, blood work and exam he was diagnosed with severe CHF, pneumonia and a heart murmur, none of which were ever previously seen. We were sent home with Lasix, antibiotics, and Enalapril with instructions if he were to become worse over the weekend we were to immediately take him to the ER Vet Clinic with a cardiologist on staff and to return Monday morning for a follow up including Xrays. After 2 days of medication, he improved greatly and we returned Monday for followup. The Xrays on Monday showed a very large defect in the right atrium of his heart which was not seen on Saturday because his right lung was filled with fluid. Since all of his issues came out of nowhere I was asked if I was feeding a grain-free diet and we discussed the link what was discussed in the FDA report recently. We have an appointment with a Cardiologist in September and I plan to discuss this further at that time. This is all very concerning to me and devastating since he has always been previously healthy. So far treatment for his CHF has cost over $600 and the Cardiology visit and work up is estimated for close to $900. I was told he will need to take medications for the rest of his life.

Well, once again, a company was bought out by a big brand that cuts corners and cheapens their product. My dog has been on this food for two years due to chicken allergies. I have now noticed that this food is suddenly full of chicken ingredients. Could have killed my dog had I not noticed. Glad I always check.

I first purchased this in pork/beef variety. My dogs loved it and the kibble size was perfect for my aging Yorkie. The next bag I decided to get the whitefish variety. Dogs still love the flavor but there are two kibble sizes in the bag both bigger than the original one I purchased. My Yorkie is not able to eat this as well. Would not recommend if you are getting it (the whitefish) for a senior toy breed. Stick with the pork/beef.

He took to the food right away, which usually has not been the case. When he eats, usually it's when he decides to which sometimes means he leaves his bowl of food overnite then he wont eat it when it's stale. Now he has been following his regiment of mid-morning and mid-evening.

My pup has been eating this food for a year. Carefully selected by seafood, grain free, small breed and ingredient combination. Healthy food at affordable good value. He has perianal fistula and this food seems to have been a good choice. Never written a review before but writing one now because BRAVO both to amazon and to whole earth as my dog wouldn’t eat the kibble from the last bag sent for some odd reason. I sent a message to Amazon and they sent a replacement right away. Amazing! I would have switched foods otherwise, so everyone wins!

The furbabies LOVE fish. So I get a small bag of this grain-free (one has an allergy) and give it to them as special treats, when they're good, or when they're learning a new trick---as opposed to actual manufactured "treats" which can be way too fatty, etc. I've tried a few others, but will be continuing to buy this from now on.

Made my dog sick , he hated it and actually threw up several times

Great dog food. My dog had been itching like crazy. I switched to this brand and no more itching and his coat looks great.
