might be ok if you are prepared to download tracks from the internet
Feel cheated. Why? First, its a bit thin on the ground, this book, with only 30 pages in total , and I can understand why he called it a Primer! Reads like a set of student's notes, and you don't get any sense of the author's personality coming through-just a set of notes full of jargon! Second, its Really Annoying to read. The first 12 pages contain the bar codes you need to download the backing tracks for the licks in the book. To be honest, and if your like me, any mention of having to "down load" stuff is big turn off- what a pity there isn't a CD...authors like this or skimping on costs- but surely a CD is easy to make?! The author Ged Brockie has created what he calls "Fasttracks" which are supposed to help you improvise? These Fasttracks consist of about 3or 4 bars of single line playing. There are only 20 of them in all, and then there is only one solo at the back-and yes you need to download more backing tracks! There are brief notes with each track which don't seem to make much sense, and mostly musical jargon I suppose. For example No 16 "Tech/harmonic aspects: Scalar runs, B minor seven arpeggio substituting over EM7, string skipping, large interval leaps, rolling left hand finger technique" (Well too me that's gobbeldigook!) This book might be ok for music students at College, but I don't think it can help me. The only reason I'm not returning it, is that I collect guitar books-and this hasto be the worst rip off yet. Save your money and look elsewhere.
