I purchased this dash cam after 2 other brands failed me, one with a bad touchscreen and flaky rear camera (Hawk Evo) and another with a bad screen (Viofo A229) after only a week. The Nextbase 522GW was recommended by a co-worker after I complained about the last two. I've come to find out that he doesn't use all the features so he hasn't seen any of the issues I have.I started out with the setup and when I got to the Alexa integration, the pairing failed continuously. I granted every permission possible to both the Nextbase app and the Alexa app and it still refused to connect successfully. I also found that the Alexa app only sees the camera to attempt pairing when you have the QR Code screen up. I contacted Nextbase customer service via email, but after 3 days, I've only received an automated ticket number response and nothing else. (Update: More than a week later now I've received a response that simply points to the same help articles I've already read.)I initially installed using a hard-wire kit, and I was disappointed to find out that when powered with a hard-wire kit, it creates and locks a video every time you get in/start moving your car. This will eventually fill your memory card and you will have to format it often, or go through videos one by one to unlock and delete them. I switched to using a CLA plug and it STILL locked a video every time I got in my car and closed the door, even with the G Sensor set to LOW.I've also noticed the camera will frequently stop, then start recording randomly as I drive and it has frozen up and become unresponsive three times in the week that I've had it, forcing me to use the RESET button just to get it to work "properly" (I use that term loosely) again. Also, if you sit still for more than 5 minutes in a drive-through, it stops recording and shuts off till you start moving again and then locks another video when you move.I'm even more disappointed in this Nextbase 522GW than I have been with the last two cameras I purchased and then returned. It seems quality is no longer a priority for many of these companies.

Nextbase have been around for a while in the UK and I had an older model that needed an upgrade and was glad to find that they were now selling them over here.It is small and hides well behind the rearview mirror. The mounting base comes with heavy duty 3M sticky pads, so there is no chance of the camera falling down as it looses suction in the heat.Good quality video and sound. Easy to install. and set up. It is powered through the cigarette lighter socket, with more than enough cable to reach wherever you want to mount the camera.The program that you can download to playback and edit video is easy to use and the information that it displays alongside the video, like maps/route and speed are useful for a full picture of events.**I got a camera for my wife's car, which turns out doesn't have a cigarette lighter socket, only a USB-C socket, so it was required to purchase this separately to connect. if you get a message saying that it is looking for an update and doesn't automatically turn on and you have to do it yourself it is because it thinks it is being connected to a computer and you need to get one of those USB data blocker adaptors to fit in line, that will allow power through but blocks the data lines and with this fitted it will start when you start the car.

This works great but it came with a suction mount that is handy if switching vehicles but it limits adjusting the camera angle downward because the plug-in is located on the top and prevents being able to lower the camera angle. With the rear view attachment, in my car, it points to the back seat. It also shows more sky than needed (forward view) In our truck neither was an issue). I had to purchase the click and go base to be able to adjust the camera as there was not anything obstructing being able to angle the camera down more.

I've had a nextbase camera in my car for a couple years now and love it. It records all of my driving, and with the parking mode it keeps my car safe when I'm away from it. The video and audio qualities are great.The only things I don't like about these cameras is you need to be connected to wifi to download your videos, and you can only connect one camera to one phone. This camera was installed in my secondary vehicle, and I can't get the videos to my phone without deleting the app and reinstalling it for this (my 2nd) camera.

It's an ok cam. Suction cup a bit fiddly, running the risk of ripping it. Since I bought it, a couple of firmware updates were released. Software on phone is fine. For every movie it records a low and high res movie. I'm using a 1TB card, a 5hr trip is about 40GB worth of movies.One thing I'm disappointed about is that when moving it's difficult reading other cars' license plates. They're clear when you're waiting at a traffic lights.So you're still going to be 'it was that blue car that did it', instead of 'the blue car with license plate xxx-xxx'As far as night-viz -- maybe I can increase the exposure some more, but so far it recorded just the cone of your headlights, with nothing outside of that.

The app kind of works a little funny it only downloads to a certain date but not up to date besides that the camera works pretty good and then sometimes no volume when you play the tapes on the app

I do not think I ordered this product as anything other than BRAND NEW. What I received was sent to me as a returned item that someone else had returned it. When I opened the box, it didn't have a cord to plug into the rear-window camera. It had a musterious round or oval piece of plastic which wasn't obvious what it was or where it went. There were no installation instructions in the box. I returned it the very next day & I still have not received a refund.
