Little Critter: Just a Teacher's Pet (My First I Can Read)

We love this book, my 4 year old is learning to read and these books have been amazing resource to help her with this.

My son loves Little Critter books.

I just read this library book to a 3yr old today and was so appalled by this story and it’s message, so much that I came here to read reviews and I am again appalled that it has mostly good reviews. You tell me...Here’s the plot:New student brings the teacher an apple “that’s weird”, she sits in the front of the class “no one wants to sit there”, she raises her hand to answer the teachers questions, she’s helpful to the teacher after class, and on a field trip. The other kids don’t like her because she is a teacher’s pet, (Again because she is kind, smart, and helpful to grownups).UNTIL!!!.... she reluctantly is asked to join her classmates sports game because the teacher makes them include her, and WOW, she’s (also) really good at sports so now they tolerate her, even though she’s a teachers pet.Is this the message we want to send kids?This book is terrible. This author and publisher should be ashamed of themselves. I would love to understand how/why anyone could think this is a good book and a solid message for our youth.🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️(I am a 44yo woman with a college degree in education and 30+ years of experience working with and caring for small children)I will add this to the HUGE list of terrible children’s books.

Critter is very rude when talking about Bunella. I found myself omitting many of the sentences in this book because I found them to be very harsh and almost bullying. Glad this is a library book. I will be returning it.
