What a great little pick, nice and light with a hell of a clout,

Useful tool for those jobs that need a small pick-axe.
What is a "pick ash"? This tool made short work of chopping a shallow trench through my heavy clay soil (after a dry spell, it might have been harder work if the clay was claggy). It's true that the handle is fairly loose but an overnight soak would probably sort that out if it's important to you. I would suggest, to be on the safe side, you don't swing it above head-height to gain momentum.

As advertised
A solid piece of kit, just the right weight to make an impact in the soil without being to heavy

This will need assembly, requires shaft to be firmly attached
Nothing to dislike great for picking away at sandstone

Recommended for strong people.
Well - it's a mortar pick, and it does the job well. I found it rather heavy, so for an afternoon working on that difficult wall you end up with either a well exercised arm, or one which is so tired it wants to take the rest of the day off. Having bought this I went and bought one half the weight and twice as useful (and twice as expensive). I still use this for heavy jobs, and it is great for getting tough weeds out of a gravel drive.

Great, small, wooden handled pick
Having used a small pick like this one in Canada recently I wanted to get one. Firstly, this is one of the few that comes with a wooden handle, and allegedly is it genuine Hickory and I have no reason to doubt that. This means that the head can come off by sliding down the handle, which makes it easy to transport if space is an issue (perfect for me). It also means your hands aren't rubbed raw using it for extended periods, like many of the ones with moulded plastic/fiberglass and rubber handles. The head is fine - one piece (no welds) and with ground edges. Could do with being a little sharper but fit for purpose.Silverline seem to make a range of reasonable quality tools, which gives you some brand confidence.Would recommend to anyone looking for a great, well priced, wooden handles pick.
