I bought this bucket for use as a footbath. The first thing I did was to strip the obnoxious orange-tinted varnish, sand it smooth as ivory and then give it a tung oil treatment. I needn't have bothered because the staves apparently have enough space between them to allow water to drain away so swiftly that you can watch it happening (a bucket should NEVER rely on varnish for water-tightness). Because I've altered the bucket, I can't send it back, so I'm left with a rather costly planter; as a plant holder, the fact that it leaks will actually work in its favor. Unless you want a self-emptying bucket, don't buy this.
