great quality
This is really good quality. A lot of nuts with different materials always feel very plastic-y and cheap, but this feels like better quality to me and matches the look of the frets. I'm unsure how it affects my tone since I've upgraded a few other things at the same time. The downside of brass is that you have to keep it lubricated, unlike TUSQ XL for example, which is self lubricating. As a word of warning, you have to sand/file it down in order to fit your guitar. This is how most nuts are. I have a 2005 MIM strat and it was both too tall and too wide. I'm only using sand paper so it took quite awhile to get it shaped correctly. I find it funny that there are reviews with people saying it popped in and just worked. Unless they received a nut that was shaped more than the one I got, they probably have really messed up action. If you're unable to take the time to sand it down, you can take it to a shop or buy better tools. You may also consider other materials like TUSQ which take less time to sand. Either way, make sure you do a little research before purchasing, because even if it just pops in the slot it will likely not be the correct size.

Not Manufactured As Drop In Upgrade--Requires Knowledge And Tools
The Fender Brass Nut. It will increase volume and presence considerably. Higher frequencies than bone and synthetic nut are greatly achieved. Some my not like this increased tonal range depending on their amplifier. Mechanical lubracants; 3-In-1 Oil, grease, motor oil, gun oil, a swab of WD-40 from your (or mom's) garage would serve better than anything from a music shop for brass to nickle. You will need to shape the brass with a file and some sandpaper. In the least, you should have an automotive feeler gauge and some duct tape to be safe. Techniques from any video on nut installing will apply the same with brass. Biggest plus: the bottom radius of the brass billet. It mates with modern American and Mexican made Strats and Teles. This product may not be recommended for Squire guitars by some. On my Buttercream Players Stratocaster, this prodoct looks and plays exquisitely. Beveled, rounded, low profiled and steel wooled to a goden shine. The alnico single coils are more stratospheric and punchy. Very high shimmers of sympathic and harmonic undertones spread out after every attack. Quacks your guitar a big notch. Might be dangerous for some people. Warning.

Made an old blues guy happy.
Wow: I hoped this replacement nut would make a difference. It has transformed my 2011 50th Anniversary American Telecaster into the guitar it always should have been. I had a dead high E and a dead G string. Now they ring like a bell and sustain for days. I rarely write reviews anymore, but thank you so much. You've made an old blues guy happy.

You will need nut files to complete your install
The nut fit perfectly on a lefty Fender Tele neck and is a good quality brass. I had to do a lot of string nut filing to arrive at the correct string height. That is to be expected. Therefore you will need the correct gauge nut files or take it to someone who does this stuff all the time. Otherwise, you will not be happy with the result.
