Awesome little formicarium!
Very high quality, and well designed! It’s not the easiest to understand the instructions but it’s easy enough to figure out. I only wish I could buy more of just the nest portion for when my colony grows bigger, but it’s great!

This is a surprisingly good formicarium
This is a surprisingly good formicarium. I placed it on top of a heating mat and my ants have been happy all winter. I just wish I could buy the individual cells for expansion.

Easy to assemble, flawlessly fits together, very poor instructions and superfluous pieces.
The reason I’m giving 4 stars is because of the poor instructions. Overall the assembly was simple, my 8 year old was able to figure this out, and we completed assembly in under 30 minutes. The reason I say the instructions are horrible is the fact that you need to figure certain things out because the instructions don’t explain them. One thing is the “blue block.” What is that? There isn’t one unless they want us to roll or fold-up the blue mat. That leads to the second thing, you need to assume the blue mat goes under the screens that we presume are for the ants to obtain water. They are near the water tower (that is supposed to have a “blue block”) and we have to assume the water will gravity feed and use capillary action to absorb into the blue mat.Third, this product did come with some cotton balls which we surmised are to be stuffed in the water towers after you fill them with water, so we guess these are used instead of the missing “blue block.” This makes sense so the water has resistance and doesn’t just pour out quickly. As for the blue mat, the way we figured out that it goes under the screens is in one of the images, it looks blue under the screens, so that must be the blue mat, leading us to believe the blue mat isn’t supposed to be folded or cut in half to be used as the “blue block[s].” And what else could the cotton balls be for other than allowing the water to trickle out slowly?Fourth, there are small rectangular metal pieces that we have no idea what they’re for and they aren’t mentioned in the instructions. They seem to be superfluous.Fifth, this product comes with several tiny plastic rectangular opaque red pieces that aren’t mentioned in the instructions and we don’t know what they are for.The acrylic pieces and the assembly of the rest of the ant farm are flawless and fit together perfectly. Like I said my 8 year old easily assembled the ant farm. He immediately understood the o-rings, which in the instructions are pictured as oval, were to fix the acrylic walls together where the perpendicular wall tabs poke through the adjoining walls. One last shortcoming in the instructions, we are left to assume that we should put soil or sand or some type of substrate, because in some of the pictures you can see ants walking around just in the bare unit with no soil, and in some images you can see some substrate (like sand or soil) in the chambers. So again, that isn’t in the instructions.Overall, we’re happy with this ant farm. It’s my son’s first, and we’re very excited to start our colony. Although some of the parts seem superfluous, there are many spare parts which is good because it’s always an annoyance when something comes with only the exact number of parts and one goes missing.

You have to put it together.
Good value for what you get.A little instruction you get is somewhat comical. If you're able to figure out put this together, it's pretty nice set.Not a toy grade.

Humidity System Does Not Work!
At first this seemed like a good product. I was using this for my Messor Barbarus colony that eats seeds. I set everything up correctly. I checked back a few weeks later and entire colony is dead. I checked everything that could be the cause and the humidity system did not function properly. The sponges were not getting wet enough to be efficient and provide water for the colony. I’m very frustrated, I’m leaving a review to warn future customers and to provide feedback for the company about the humidity system currently on this formicarium.

Not Thrilled
Complicated to set up and once I got it perfectly set up and put my ants in they all escaped within minutes and there was no way to prevent escapes because of the tiny escape holes all over it. Never again for me.
