Solid HomeKit camera with pan/tilt – great value overall
The Aqara E1 is a capable indoor camera with good 2K video quality, smooth pan/tilt, and proper HomeKit Secure Video integration. It’s been working well for monitoring my living room and has nice person detection. Night vision performs adequately, and the build feels decent. I appreciate the local recording option via microSD. Minor gripes: tracking can occasionally lose people in busy scenes, and the Aqara app is needed for full 2K and some advanced features. Still a strong buy at this price point compared to other HomeKit options.

Better than Eufy
Replacing my entire setup with Aqara. Easy setup, HomeKit (maybe even Matter) compatibility, night vision, plug-in, you name it.

4/5 on basic functionality, 3/5 at this price point
Pros: 1. Decent video quality during the day or when the room is illuminated. IR lit video is not bad. Enough to make out large objects and basic details about the room. 2. It can record on iCloud with Homekit. 3. Pan and tilt allows for scanning almost the entire room leaving only a small blindspot. Cons: 1. Audio recording is horrible. It produces a cracking sound and hardly anything is audible. 2. Pan/tilt calibration is off very often. As a result, the preset angles are useless when the calibration is bad. The camera does have a “pan/tilt calibration” option. However it does not fix it most of the time. 3. It comes with a 3ft chord and no brick. May need to consider the cost for a longer cable and brick.

High quality in home video.
Having dedicated years to home video cameras, my allegiance shifted to Aqara after immersing myself in the hundreds of positive reviews surrounding their products. The visual clarity they offer is nothing short of astonishing, coupled with a connectivity that consistently surpasses expectations. With a comprehensive array of over 40 Aqara devices seamlessly integrated into my home, each one stands out for its exceptional performance. Navigating the Aqara app or interfacing with other components within the ecosystem is a seamless and intuitive experience. Personally opting for HomeKit integration, I experience unparalleled immediacy with which these devices effortlessly establish and maintain connections. Their reliability and swift responsiveness, whether utilized individually or within automations and scenes, underscore Aqara's undeniable quality. Now if AQARA would only manufacture outdoor cams!

Aqara indoor camera (not a hub)
I purchased this camera to go in the garage to monitor ins, outs, and packages that happen to come there instead of the front door. However, I decided to put it in the home office. It helps me monitor who "borrows" my office items that I am constantly looking for when I work from home. I can also see if the cat is in there when I am not there. I know I can use it for some automations or scenes. I need to think about that for a while. The price is right, and the video quality is great for the size of the room. This is an item I would get more of if I could figure out what more I could do with it.

Terrible HomeKit Integration
The video quality is pretty good. That is the only nice thing I can say about this camera. TLDR: - The app is bad - Homekit integration is terrible - Maximum recording time of 12 seconds, and a 3 minute delay before you can record again. - Major privacy concerns. - All of my issues were either confirmed by Aqara support or completely ignored. INITIAL REVIEW: Yes, the video quality is good. But the mic/speaker for two-way communication is as bad as a child's walkie-talkie. Unfortunately the integration with HomeKit is very poor and the iOS app is not very intuitive. There are preset PTZ locations that can be set in the app, but you must manually to rotate to those locations. You can’t use any HomeKit automations or shortcuts to trigger rotating or recording. The app has its own “automations” (see screenshot) and “scenes”, but they are completely independent of HomeKit and don’t integrate with them at all. UPDATE: After using the camera for a few weeks, it gets so much worse than I initially realized. When it detects motion, it will only record for 12 seconds total, no matter what movement is still happening. AND it will not detect movement again fro another 3 minutes. I have contacted Aqara support directly and they have confirmed this is the case. The only way around it is to set recording to "continuous." Also, it will only capture video from the moment the motion starts – there is no pre/post event recording like you get with other cameras. But wait! It gets worse. There’s a setting for “detection frequency” that I mentioned above, which defaults to 3 minutes. So after it initially records an event it will not begin to detect and record motion again for 3 minutes. If you want to shorten that amount of time…YOU HAVE TO BUY A THEIR SUBSCRIPTION. See screenshot. Even if you subscribe, you can only reduce that time down to 15 seconds. Why have any non-recording time at all? If something is happening, record it!! Next, in order to save a recording to your phone (iPhone app anyway), they require full access to all of your personal photos. Apple offers a "Save Only" permission that allows apps to save photos and videos, but not see anything in your library, but the Aqara app does not implement this permission. When I contacted support about this, they basically pretended to not understand me and said they couldn't see any of your photos. Then why would they ask for that level of permission? I even sent them the direct link to Apple's developer documentation showing how easy it would be to implement this. They ignored me. In addition, there is a lot of non-local network traffic generated by this device. I am not using their cloud service, and all recordings should be saved only to the SD card. So it's odd that there is 3.72 GB of UPLOAD traffic over the last 24 hours. There's another 101MB of download traffic despite the lack of any firmware updates available. I still need to do more research on this and block it at the firewall, but this is just one more reason not to trust this company. CONCLUSION: Absolutely do not buy this camera. It can't reliably do the one thing I bought it to do, which is to record all human activity. Since it's past the return window, I'm just going to give this away to someone else and be done with the Aqara brand.

I now have three
I saw YouTube review videos on this Aqara indoor security camera in which all reviewers gave it a glowing review. So I decided to give it a try since it was only sale on Amazon. Plus it was suppose to integrate seamlessly into Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem. Holy Smokes, the reviewers were right about how good Aqara cameras are. I quickly ditched my old systems (bye to my Ring and Abode cameras) and bought 2 more Aqara Cameras. Even the one that looks like a cat. The big surprise was my lovely wife loved these cameras too. She loves how easy it is to view the cameras on any Apple device including Apple TV. The really kicker is it can also be used an Amazon ecosystem and the Aqara video feed comes up quicker on our Echo Show than our Ring or Abode Cameras. Not only did we replace all our indoor cameras, we replaced our Ring doorbell camera with the Aqara Doorbell camera. It’s now been over 3 months since we bought the 1st Aqara camera and never had a connection issue. Another nice thing about Aqara Cameras, they can still be viewed even when your internet goes down. During a storm last month we lost power and the internet. We were running on backup power. The front Aqara doorbell rang and the camera view came up on our iPhone. We then tested all the other Aqara cameras after that doorbell ring and found they were all still viewable on our Apple devices. We can’t say enough good things about these cameras. Once again the YouTube reviewers were right about these Aqara Cameras.

Not as expected
I had high hopes for this device but it failed in every aspect. Poor HomeKit support, poor picture quality, and it’s clear they cheaped out on the build quality by not including a magnetic base, no hub support, and the software is far inferior to the the G3 despite being newer. I will be returning. Pros Cheaper than G3 Includes USB-C as part of the connection Cons E1 picture has bad grain on the left and right of the image during night vision and during the day. G3 does not have this issue. WiFi 6 claim on this device only supports 2.4 GHz frequency, no 5 GHz frequency compatibility. G3 includes both No magnetic base, needs double sided tape or the included plastic base with drywall screws to mount it anywhere that is not horizontal or flat to the surface. More expensive than G2H pro with “better” resolution however, even in HomeKit it looks worse than the G3 and G2H pro. In the Aqara app, device is trying to connect to HomeKit despite already being connected. It won’t show it is already connected and gives an error message. Despite being USB-C, the unit comes with a USB-C to USB-A cable and no power adapter. Why bother including USB-C to USB-A cable, just include USB-C to USB-C cable and at least warn customers no power adapter is included. To be fair almost all of Aqara devices do not include power adapter. Update: Aqara customer service is great. They refunded the purchase in full.

Ok product. Some options need subscription
Image quality is good. But a number of options need a paid subscription for cloud storage, and those options do not accept NAS server storage. Do your homework before buying this product
