Best deal for a reliable low cost 2-way radio that is extremely versatile
The build of the radio is first-rate with a rugged case that will withstand more than a few inadvertent drops to the floor. Transmit and receive audio are both outstanding and the radio is very easy to use with the stock firmware. The real story is that this radio is very customizable with the third-party development of firmware that adds features never before seen with these inexpensive radios. The stock firmware is fine if you wish to stay with it but I have found the IJV firmware to be the one for me with its ability to create up to 15 different memory groups which makes it possible to use this radio as an aircraft band scanner, ham radio scanner, GMRS scanner, public service scanner, marine band scanner and any other service(s) you wish to scan. Using the CHIRP software you can disable TX for any of these services that you do not have transmitting privileges. This is by far the best deal out there right now and I now own 3 of them! There are many reviews on YouTube and also a lot of "How To" videos if you wish to explore them. These radios offer a lot of fun for your money and I highly recommend the UV-K(58) and its identical twin the UV-K6.

USB charging doesn’t work
As the headline says, the USB charging function does not work so I’m giving it 4 stars. My TIDRadio H8 has functional USB charging, if you have the USB port on the radio it should work. The Quangsheng has made a big name for itself with the capabilities available from aftermarket firmware, and the ease of using that firmware. I won’t go over all of the new functionality as tgat information is available on QRZ and other websites, but what do I think about the radio itself? Well, I am fairly impressed with it, and would choose it over a Baofeng . This is pretty much the new standard in the little cheap HTsThis radio has some volume. You won’t have to keep it going full volume in a mobile environment. I found it to be more sensitive on receive, the scanning is faster, and the aircraft monitor capabilities are really nice to have. The NOAA weather channels make this a good choice as an emergency radio given the weird and wild spring weather, and it will also be usable on GMRS. Software mods will allow it to receive as low as 18 MHz, so it can monitor CB and ham radio HF.. you can feed your inner radio need for ages with HT, and once Quangsheng can get the USB charge working as well as the TID H8 it will be a z5star

Best radio to scan in the tone
I can't say that this radio is the best in terms of RX sensitivity and selectivity. But it works reasonably well. What it is good for is scanning CTCSS and DCS tones. It will get the tone and keep it on the screen until you need it. Interestingly, two of three of these radios turned out to be pretty weather resistant. I forgot them on the patio, and they got rained on pretty bad. I just took off the battery, shook out the wanter, and let them dry for a couple days. They were as good as new. The third one kicked the bucket, though. But it's still impressive.
