## Description

Seachem StressGuard Slime Coat Protection - Stress and Toxic Ammonia Reducer 250 ml

Review: Works Like Magic for Stubborn Betta Fin Rot - My betta and I have been fighting fin rot on and off for a while now. Recently figured out what the cause for the tears that allowed fin rot was, and removed it from the tank. I've tried lots of things, from aquarium salt to tablet based anti-fungal/bacterial medicines, which have all worked mildly for him. He was as happy and energetic as could be, but it was sad to see his fins torn and short all the time. I did some research, and I decided to try this Stressguard. My thought process was this: combine aquarium salt and Stressguard. The salt helped disinfect any open wounds, and the Stressguard would come in, bind to the exposed proteins in the wounds, promote regenration, and create a strong slime coat to protect against any foreign bodies. It worked perfectly! This combination, plus a 50% water change every day for a week straight allowed my betta to consistently regrow his fins back more than I had ever seen before. This product is awesome. You just mix in the appropriate dosage for your tank, and done. You can safely double the dosage, and you can add this to the water every day until your fish shows signs of improvement, as the bottle says. Not only does it help with healing and regrowth, but it helps with the stress of new water/water changes every day during treatment, and he was just chilling out like his normal self would and showed no signs of stress. The only downside to this product is that it does turn your water slightly blue and can stain, as it's a dark blue color, but that's no reason for you to not use it. I highly recommend trying this for stubborn fin rot. Protecting your fish's slime coat when treating fin rot is so widely overlooked, but I found it to be extremely effective.
Review: Must have!!! - This stuff is always great to have on hand, blue in color, no smell and doesn’t do much for water clarity as it is solely for aiding fish healing and health, definitely acts as a medication and works great for even fish with dropsy. We had rescued a dropsy fish from PetSmart and he had severe spinal curvature, we put him in a hospital tank to live the rest of his life happy, and he lasted almost an entire year!!!

## Features

- PROTECT: Seachem StressGuard is a premium slime coat protection product, working to reduce stress and ammonia toxicity whenever handling or transporting fish.
- HEAL: Seachem StressGuard binds to exposed protein in wounds to promote healing of injured fish while reducing the likelihood of primary and secondary infections.
- TREATMENT: The protein active colloidal agent in StressGuard actively seeks out any wounds, abrasions, or places where exposed proteins are and attaches to this area, helping to directly deliver the disinfectant in the product and start the healing process.
- AQUARIUM CARE: Use 1/2–1 capful (2.5–5 mL) of StressGuard to every 40 L (10 US gallons) every 24 hours until signs of stress have abated or healing is complete. A dose of StressGuard may be safely doubled.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this also used as a conditioner as well? Or do i have to use my prime water conditioner with this?**
A: No,I would say it is not. You would have to use Prime to condition your water. You can always e-mail Seachem and ask. I use lots of their products. One of the best companies out there. They have answered everyone of my e-mails.

**Q: Is this OK to use with freshwater snails?**
A: I chuckled when I saw your question; I use this product every time I do a water change, and since last winter I have been battling snails that came in unbeknownst to me on some plants (75 gal freshwater tank, lightly planted with low light tolerant plants). And they are prolific!! Based on my experience, I would say it it doesn't harm snails HOWEVER, not being an aqua-malacologist, I don't know if different species of snails react differently to meds. You could always send a question to Seachem to confirm. I do work with plants a lot, so a tip; if you know what kind of snails you have, include that information with your inquiry.

**Q: Can this product be used for saltwater aquariums?**
A: yes

**Q: Can this be used with Seachem prime?**
A: Yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Saved my betta
*by F***R on January 25, 2026*

My betta had awful fin rot that wasn’t getting better with anything else I tried. A few weeks after using this and his fins are showing growth and he’s back to his usual activity level. Would absolutely recommend for anyone whose fish has stubborn fin rot.
