Excellent for adults - Using right out of the box with my Verizon SIM card.
I am using this in place of a dumb flip phone I had on Verizon. I didnt want to switch carriers but I wanted to have better texting and images. I purchased an LTE phone compatible with Verizon’s network as a bit of an experiment. What would happen if i just bought the phone and put in my Verizon SIM card - Well much like any other LTE device it started working right away no problem - No internet, No social media, no email. Excellent! Now - with out a Gabb plan you cannot associate the new phone with a “parent” account (this needs to be done through the Gabb Wireless app on another phone / tablet). You really can’t even make a Gabb account online but I called Gabb support and they set me up with an account (which is useless without a Gabb phone plan - but was experimenting). So all in all - A great Dumb Smart phone for those who want to use it right out of the box - My understanding is it uses a variation of Samsung Knox managed Operating System which was originally designed for companies who wanted to manage/control the level of access / usage on employees phones. Working good for me as a Smart Dumb phone. Now I really wanted to get the Navigation app loaded but the only way to enable this is through a Gabb parent account (see above - can’t be done without a Gabb phone plan). Possibly you could pay for a months of service, set the phone up how you want it and then cancel and move on to what ever provider you wanted to use. Not sure if this would work though worth trying some day. That or try buying a used phone that was not factory reset.

Gabb is a good concept but a terrible company to work with
I 100% support keeping children safe while using technology, but Gabb doesn't live up to the hype. We've had ongoing issues for the past year and a half between 2 different devices, various phone plans, inherent design flaws and poorly trained customer support. Customer service is really the worst and no one seems to be up to date on the current issues or solutions, whether you chat or talk with an agent or read support blogs online. The phone wait times are HORRIBLE, especially for a full month after the holidays. The Gabb Cloud is a total joke. It's not like Google Photos at all. It's only meant to restore an entire phone (contacts, photos, messages, etc,) It is not useful for saving and retrieving old photos for individual use. When I log into the Gabb ID as a parent it will automatically sync all my daughters deleted photos back onto her phone from the Cloud, which then always fills up her phone storage and prevents her phone from functioning at all. Then she has to painstakenly go through and delete individual photos all over again. Gabb Cloud photos can't be accessed on a computer, and they can't be transfered to a computer without buying a micro SD card and coorinating device to do it manually. They also can't be organized in the Cloud into folders or in any way that makes them useful individually.Additionally, we've also had constant issues with images not coming through in texts, especially group texts. Texts will get dropped along with photos or are very delayed in being received. It also does not play nice with iphones. For $40/mo and EXTREMELY basic functions, you'd think Gabb phones would be hard to screw up. They are Androids, afterall, and have been around forever! I'm an Android user yet the GABB phone feels foreign, not intuative. They really have taken a good concept and delivered a poor product. I wish I could recommend it as non-smart-phones are a much needed option for our youth, but sadly I can't. Gabb has been nothing but a total headache for my daughter and I in every capacity. I'm ready to move on and figure out how to protect her on a more functional device.

I changed my opinion
When we first bought this phone I wasn’t very satisfied but as we got more familiar with it I can say I’m very pleased with it. It would be a great phone for any age if you don’t want your teen or younger child on the internet. It works great. We will be buying one again for our granddaughter in a couple years. It has everything a child needs. We aren’t a fan of giving our kids phones that can allow them to be on the internet. There’s just way too many dangerous people and inappropriate content no child needs to have access to. Really none of us adults need one either. But that’s just my opinion. Young parents let their toddlers and grade school children play with their phones and click on all kinds of things they shouldn’t see. That’s what wrong with the world. There’s too much access to harm children in the internet. Anyway, this phone holds true. It works well and our daughter can not get access to the internet yet she can text, take pictures, and call family & friends. And if she needs something she has a phone to call for family or help. I recommend this phone.

The Gabb phone has been a great experience for us!
This is my first experience with the Gabb phone. It has been a great experience, so far. The phone was easy to set up and I like the safety features it provides. My son was thrilled to finally get his own phone. I'm grateful that he can have a phone and it's safer then a regular smartphone. We are both happy. I wish we would've had this option with our two older kids.
