Not All Computers Can Boot From A USB Port
Two parts to this review: first the transaction, second the product. The transaction was good, once we got the credit card info straightened out. The problem may have been me or with the vendor, or Amazon, dunno. But we got it straightened out and then everything worked very well. I would not hesitate to buy from DVDxDVD again.I have found the product to be a mixed bag - but there is hope for you. The product is Linux Ubuntu on a USB stick, 2 supporting DVDs, and 2 pages of hard copy documentation, and more Linux documentation in the files on the 4GB USB stick and DVDs. The notion was that you could just insert the stick and try Ubunto before switching to it. I tried inserting the stick on the my primary computer running Windows Vista - no luck. The USB stick did not auto-run. I explored several likely files but never found the one that would simply initiate Ubunto in a Windows VISTA operating environment, as opposed to installing Ubunto. I think I could likely get the product to run on my Windows computer if I had followed DVDxDVD's directions and gone into the BIOS, reprogrammed the boot sequence to run from the USB stick, and running the entire computer in the Ubunto environment - but I didn't try that.Instead, I tried the USB stick on the old computer I intended to load Linux on, and that didn't work either. I discovered the BIOS could not be programmed to let me boot from a USB port. I gather from one of the sheets included with the package that some computers will let you boot from a USB port, but not all, and mine didn't. The documentation with the product suggested that in these cases you might transfer the info from the USB stick to a CD/DVD and try again - as you'll see below, I already had a Linux Ubunto on a DVD from another product, so I didn't try that. What HAS been useful is Linux Ubunto on a DVD.As it happens, I got Linux for Dummies(Emmett Dulaney) as a gift. My goal here is not to review that book here except to say that I was surprised to find that it came with a DVD w 5 versions of Linux that could be run solely from your computer's DVD drive. I tried running Linux from the DVD on my old computer and to my surprise it worked like a champ, with each different type of Linux (Ubunto, Fedora, SUSE, Mint, & Mandrive). I was able to run all the 5 varieties of Linux directly and only from my DVD - the machine did not have a working hard drive. I think this stand-alone DVD approach is a great way to get a taste of Linux, before you dive in. Subsequently, I've put a new hard drive on that machine and installed Ubunto from the same DVD.Unfortunately, I discovered the version of Linux on the Dummies disk was Ubuntu 10.04, it's called the Lucid version. Fortunately the DVDxDVD version of Ubuntu (the version is called Natty Narwhale) is 11.04. So I then used the DVDxDVD disks to up-grade my Linux install from 10 to 11. The Ubuntu install worked very well and the upgrade worked very well, no problems. Had I understood these nuances at the beginning, I think I could have installed the DVDxDVD 11.04 version directly, after installing a new hard drive, but I didn't know. The up-graded Ubunto tells me my machine doesn't have the resources to run their new Unity screen, but the old Linux screen seems to be working perfectly. What does this all mean to you?First, before you consider buying this product check your machine of interest and be sure the boot sequence will allow you to boot from a USB port. If you can't boot from a USB port, it makes no sense to spend money to get Ubuntu on a USB stick; save some money and just get the DVDs.Second, if you want to check out Ubuntu on a computer runnin[...]Windows, I think you can go to[,, click on Download, click on Run With Windows, and download a free version that can be installed and uninstalled via Windows wubi routine (note: I haven't done this). This saves your having to dork around with the boot sequence of your computer, and I think it's free.I want to emphasize that I don't think DVDxDVD misrepresented their product, it just never occurred to me that I couldn't boot from a USB port. You should check. I haven't read the Linux documentation on the DVDxDVD USB stick and DVDs, I'm hopeful some of it will be useful, but I can't comment at this point.

Some problems
I tried to install it on two different laptops only to get warning messages. I brought an Acer Aspire V5 that had a Unix OS system and it installed on that as easy as pie. I like this OS, but finding a computer that will run it is another story. I read it had something to do with the motherboard, so you would think they would fix that bug.

useful BUT
Thumb-drive is NOT "as shown"; instead I received a generic brand name drive, in pink. As long as it doesn't get mixed with my wife's pink ones' I'll be okay.

I have enjoyed using Ubuntu
I have enjoyed using Ubuntu, I have upgraded to the latest version. You can download Ubuntu for free and install, I chose to purchase the flash drive, this allowed me to run Ubuntu from the drive with out installing Ubuntu directly on my computer. Once installed there is a lot one can do easily without any experience with Ubuntu, if you have ever used Microsoft operating system. The hardest thing to get used to is the "X" to close a window is on the left and the navigation and menu is on the right. When I was comfortable with the performance on the flash drive I installed this as a duel boot system. This was quite easy since there are utilities that do this for you on the flash drive. You just have to answer a few questions. Using the utilities on the USB drive I set up a partition on my hard drive reformatted the partition for Ubuntu and created a start splash screen for me to choose Windows 8 or Ubuntu. Now that I am comfortable using Ubuntu I am starting to go through the training and instructions to get to the nuts and bolts. This is after using Ubuntu for 8 months without reading the instructions! I have used the internet, downloaded music, created/edited documents which can be opened and edited in Windows as well. The great thing is that I have downloaded applications to do all this for free and they rival Microsoft's application except they are free!It has been well worth the $30 I spent.

Give this to people you don't like
Frustrating waste of money and time. On second try it loaded on my older computer and Firefox crashed continually and files were empty. Offered to upgrade to version 17.10 and upgrade went well until reboot then it crashed too. Now I have to find out how to uninstall this and get rid of the partition on the hard drive.

Ubuntu 10.10 on 4gb USB Stick
After a few glitches, of my own doing, I got Ubuntu to run on my netbook without having to install it. It is a complete package with useful software. I agree with the other reviewers and I won't repeat their comments here. I especially like the 4gb USB stick and being able to run it from the flash drive. In case you are wondering about the glitches:I have severe arthritis and getting the cap off the USB stick was a bit of a chore. I wrote the seller and got a quick response on how to safely open the flash drive.Secondly, I had to make adjustments in the BIOS to boot from the flash drive. On my ASUS netbook, there is a BIOS function called Boot Booster that needs to be turned off. Once these changes were made, Ubuntu booted up fine. I also contacted the seller about lack of instructions, and again got a quick reply. Silly me, the instructions were on the second page of the packing material and were stuck behind the first page. I was told people often throw away the instructions, thinking they are packing information. Finally, I had a little trouble getting connected to the internet, but I found the application to automatically connect to my wireless network. All in all, Ubuntu is a complete operating system at a very affordable price.

Way over my head - drive works for other stuff
Tried to get into Linux but having to remember a thousand (seems like) commands/prompts would require more energy and brain cells than I have extent. Must be good because others swear by it... but give me GUI-thanks!

Tutorial
The tutorial was an introduction to coding. I found its complexity thoroughly frightening. After calling the Prizix co., the customer support was very helpful.

DVD et USB Ubuntu 14.10
Ce n'est pas vraiment la version que je désirais... Cependant, cette version est quasi identique à la version 14.04 LTS, mais ne bénéficie pas d'un suivit aussi long.

Ubuntu flash drive works well
ideal way of sampling Linux without affecting other systems, presented nicely, I am senior citizen and wished to do just this, it worked well and was put away in the loft, I have had computers since 1983 and dont have room in my head for taking on new complications.. otherwise it looks great and works very well.

Super Easy Launch Pad Into Linux
Probably not necessary, given all the software is free, but a huge timesaver well worth the price. If you've been putting off jumping into Linux, like I was, this is a very easy on-ramp. A nice little info kit comes along making the whole process simple.Nice product. Thanks.
