New Beginning

If I had to pick my top 20 albums EVER? Yes this would be one of them. Amazing timeless classic
Simply put it is one of those records from my childhood that has stood the test of time as essential listening. As soon as I hear the first track Heaven's Here On Earth and the stunning acoustic artistry and that almost slumbering but edgy beautiful voice, you are in the zone of total musical satisfaction. Its only after the third or forth track you start wondering......is the quality going to let up at any point...........common forgettable riff, forgettable chorus where are you?...........and it simply DOES NOT HAPPEN. Every track is brilliant and memorable and soulful. The song writing is Dylan standard. Gold Dust. In terms of the artists vision lyrically Tracy manages to balance what are still almighty social issues in her words with heartfelt honesty, and a folklorish grace that constantly keeps your attention without any detriment to the vibe and excellent production values on show. Balancing both bohemian like trance with a faint whiff of Billy Bragg working class hero, and a touch of Dylan journeyman texture, Chapman really nailed it here. As a whole record I have always preferred it to the fast car album. For me this her masterpiece. Peace.

The best of all tracy chapman albums
So many of my favorite tracy chapman songs are in this album, i personally think its one of her best albums to date. From the lyrical and poignant genius of "remember the tin man", to the very understated sounds of "heavens here on earth" which has a great message of appreciating what we have on this earth."smoke and ashes" sounds like a song of some she loved who was maybe a free spirit. more so than she expected. "cold feet" also is another storycal song of a man who tried to better himself for him amd his family, only to squander all his hard work on one mistake. "Im ready" is almost like a mantra and the sound of it sticks with for a long time after the song has ended. "give me one reason" has a great sound to it and is quite a "girl power" kind of song haha.As you can tell I have listened to this album quite frequently and will continue to do so. Just because it sounds great.Definately one of her best albums

Sad songs played beautifully.
Demonstrates what an excellent singer/songwriter/player that Tracy really is. Not a poor track on this hour-long album. A lot of very poignant lyrics and excellent social comment - "Rape of the World" and "Remember the Tin Man" particularly bring a lump to the throat every time. Gentle, sensitive arrangements with quite a large helping of melancholly throughout the music and vocals.

Very good song here called " Give me a Reason" which ...
There's a very. Very good song here called " Give me a Reason" which to me stood out. Its got a great bluesy feel to it, catchy infectious song, its just a pity there were not more songs along the same style ,still its a good album with New beginnings is a promising opener, tell it like it is is another good one, some nice ballads with just voice and guitar too.

Great Voice
We bought three of Tracy Chapman's CD and we think they are great, we bought it on the back of one we already had - so all I can say is if you like her style, it's great.
