Hand Crafted Bread Lame with 5 Blades Included

This lame design seems to have an advantage over all of the other lames I have seen on Amazon. The shank is of high hardness stainless steel that has been punched to form a small pin that retains the blade so that you can't dislodge the blade with a misplaced slash. The handle has an oval cross-section that gives good control and facilitates repeatable cuts. The stainless is highly polished so cleans up easily, and the wood handle is easy to wipe off if you get bits of dough on it. There is a 1-star review that complains about dull blades included with the lame and while I was looking for that I found the delivered blades to be quite sharp (equal to the double-edged chrome/platinum blades I buy from Walmart) and historically I put in a new blade about once a year (remember that one blade has four corners so you get to rotate it to get a clean edge every three months - unless you keep trying to cut other things than bread dough). I would buy it again and may buy some for gifts.

I started baking my own bread in January, so I had a head start before everyone started their covid quarantine baking. I wanted to make my bread look better so I started slicing the top before I baked. Occasionally, my loaf would fall when I tried to cut the top with a knife. I purchased this lame and it has stopped the dough from falling. My 11 year old was so impressed with the way my loafs were looking, she encouraged me to cut the deathly hallows symbol into the top of a loaf before I baked it. I gave it a shot and I have to say I impressed myself! I am definitely no artist but my bread is looking great. The razor blade was a little cumbersome to get into place but once its on properly, it works great. If you are into baking bread and what your loaves to look great, get this lame. Your bread will never be lame again.

I liked this came in it's own case for storing, comes with a set of 5 blades. I also liked that it has a guarantee of satisfaction so if you don't like it they will refund your money. I never had a bread lame before so I was super excited to add one to my baking asernal. I did find it a little difficult to put on the blade.

I had previously bought a cheap lame (green plastic blade holder) and it worked as well as my kitchen knife, which was not great. I just tried this new lame and WOW - massive, massive difference. If you've been struggling to get good scores, it might not be your bread dough....it might be you are not using a great lame. I liked the simple, picture instructions on how to insert the blade. Super easy. No issues and wow, such a great job as scoring my bread

The lame is a little hard (and scary) to assemble and I do not find it any easier to use than a plain old razor blade. You need to bend the blade and then slip the stem of the handle through groves in the blade and "hook" it on a small notch . It does repeat in the directions several times to be careful putting the blade on and taking it off. It does have a nice carry case. I honestly will probably keep using my "kitchen" exacto because it is easier to change the blades.

I recently started making sourdough bread and had tried using a sharp knife and an exacto knife to score my loaves. My loaves were opening up ok, but definitely felt they could have been better. I finally decided to purchase a bread lame, because it was a shame to go through the whole sourdough process and skimp on one of the last steps. I am so happy I purchased my lame! The first time I used it, I made the mistake of scoring my loaf too deep. The next time, I made a 1/4”-1/2” deep score, and my loaf opened up beautifully! I will definitely only use a lame to score my loaves. What I found was helpful in making a nice, clean score is to drizzle a light coating of olive oil on the edge of the blade immediately prior to scoring. It makes a much cleaner cut. I love my new bread lame!

I love that there are clear instructions with photos on to use this and install blades so you don’t slice your hands open! A nice hard case for storage (again to protect the lame and you) as well as a nice sturdy handle in the lame and instructions on how to score the bread. I am very happy with this purchase!

I was hesitant to get a lame because it seemed like it couldn't really be that much better than a knife for scoring and I hate have extra tools lying around. But boy am I glad I did. I went back and forth between different models (this basic wood-handle type, the plastic French ones with their special locking mechanism, the pretty artisan ones, a stainless one that can do straight or curved), but ultimately I decided to go for a cheap one just to see. It works incredibly well. I dip it in cold water before scoring, and it slices through even wet doughs without catching. I think I would have been upset if I had spent more than this, since it's basically just a holder for the razor blade, plus a case. This one is a great value.

Have used it a number of times and the results are always consistently good.
