I'm afraid this might sound a tad phallic....
I was initially looking at purchasing a Power Guidance version of this a I was also investing in a battle rope. However they sold out of 5kg and then 7.5kg too. All advice points to starting at a low weight and when I saw 9T9 had one for offer at the same price in stock I bit the bullet. The item arrived within four days via Parcelforce and after leaving the box alone for a day according to Corvid 19 I eagerly opened it.First impressions: re packaging, it comes in a brown cardboard box and a transparent narrow plastic bag. No protection around the ball head or shaft. I would have thought a little bit of bubble wrap would have been the least expected, but apparently not.The weight is obviously in the head of the mace as the shaft feels hollow, with the designated weight marked at the base of the handle in black against black. This is unlike the PG version which has a logo and designated weight printed on a white disc applied to the flat top of the ball head. Admittedly when the ball is on the ground, handle vertically upwards, you wouldn't see the disc but the finish looks far better from what I can see on the screen on the PG mace. The 9T9 version has no such disc hiding the hole through which, I presume, the connecting screw goes to attach the head to the shaft. I can just see a bright steel dot when looking into it, speaking of which the paint job on the head is poor; not only thinly applied but it came already with chipped with bare metal shining through in places. I don't know if these things are supposed to be capable of being left outdoors but this one isn't weather proofed or finished particularly well. I appreciate it's a piece of gym equipment which is expecting to be used, but it's still a £55 piece of equipment that, to my mind at least, deserves better attention to finishing details. I have subsequently noticed on those presented in the associated advertising images there are chips aplenty. What happens if whatever is connecting the head to the shaft corrodes and the weight either goes flying off or falls off, drops down and crushes part of me?Without having a PG example in front of me I can't do a direct comparison or state that the finish is truly worse or better, but as they are equal price I would be interested to see if they are. Maybe Power Guidance will supply me one to do so after this situation we all face has changed. As to the usage of the macebell I will update this review when this has progressed and if happy I will adapt my rating to reflect as such. I'm sure it will perform in precisely the same manner, but as it stands I think 9T9 missed a trick by not applying a logo or apparently doing quality checks. If it were easy to return that might have been a route I'd have taken.
