I Am Third: The Inspiration for Brian's Song: Third Edition

I have been a fan of the movie “Brian’s Song” so I was anxious to get Gail Sayer’s’ story, it taught me a lot about football and now I’m a fan.

This is a good book primarily covering the background and an important period in one of the greatest athletes our county has produced. But more than his athletic accomplishments - he was a good man, which is the more important focus of the book.

I bought this book to give to our daughter's boyfriend whose having a rough time in school right now. He's a football fan & I was hoping that reading a book by an outstanding player who had to overcome some very rough times in his life would give my young friend someone to look up to. It did do that.The book is very easy to read & is primarily the story of Sayers' football career from his childhood until his retirement. There should be more players like him today.

All of the paperbacks were in Excellent condition and arrived well within the timeframe we needed them for our students.

I had thought the message of I Am Third would be the predominant message. In reality the book is about Gale and his accomplishments and he puts himself first through most if it. I think his I Am Third philosophy began after him playing days and he has done a fair bit of good in the Chicago area. A good read, I loved the part about coming back from a knee injury (probably one the first NFL players ever to do this). His message is a work hard message, and is inspiring.

Very good non fiction story. Book cover is very durable for a paperback.
