Clinical Medicine for the MRCP PACES Volume 2: History-Taking, Communication and Ethics

This is a brilliant book for OSCE finals as it not only explains what questions to ask but what diagnoses the question discriminate between. I don't know how good it is for PACES because I haven't done them. However, I can avouch that its style is clear, concise and understandable and that it's content is well organised.

Absolutely the best.. Very comprehensive revision, makes you gain knowledge on all types of topics which are relevant to the new PACES exam. Very good for revision.But you would need atleast a week to properly read this. This could be used ot role play with a colleague before the exam, so one person could act as the examiner and actor, while the other is the candidate. The history taking station and ethics stations are covered very well. A comprehensive array of topics are available. Almost all different types of Station 5's are also very well covered. If you can buy only one book set (along with the part 1), this should be it.. Cannot recommend enough..

I dont know about the MRCP PACES exam, but this book is very well written. Perfect for Hx, OSCEs and VIVAs for the PGDip Physician Assistant course. The book is organised into chapters using presenting complaints.It explains how to use your history questions to differentiate common presenting problems, explaining the background and reasoning. Each station is also backed up with VIVA questions "Questions commonly asked by examiners" and a planning section including referral, blood tests and further investigations. Unlike crappy undergrad books it actually explains and justifies why these tests need to be carried out. Overall perfect for second year Physician Assistants and Nationals. very readable,logical and yet still concise. The best history and comms book I have come across.

This book is really the best PACES book I have ever read.... I dont think you would need to read anything else.

Good book

I am currently revising for PACES and came across this new book. It is volume two of a series designed for the MRCP. I am actually quite impressed. It comprehensively runs through common cases and all the material is up to date and well laid out. At times it can be a little more detailed than it probably needs to be but reassuring that it is all there. I am particularly impressed with the ethics section which is really readable and interesting at the same time. Compared to the other books out there this has to be the new market leader especially with the station five stuff. Just small enough to take with you in your bag this is a book I think I will actually use even after PACES!
