Strange
Strange little book. Not what I was expecting, but if you are a fan of H P Lovecraft it is worth reading.

Great Edition
The stories of course are great, but the physical edition is great as well. Slip cover is nice but the hardback underneath is very smart. Definitely recommend.

The Heathen Edition is an excellent version of this short story collection.
A wonderful collection of eerie short stories. The first few tales have the King In Yellow storyline woven into them in various ways. All of which work wonderfully well. The latter stories are an interesting collection of tales with Paris as the theme.Given this was written in the late 1800's it is still very easily read.Would highly recommend, especially the Heathen Edition

A masterpiece of Art Nouveau literature that needs an ideal edition
It is a shame that this wonderful book is only remembered by horror story fans, as none of the weird stories that it contains is suitable for horror anthologies, and they all belong where they are: here. This is a masterpiece of the Art Nouveau era, unmatched as far as I know, a book that is composed of short stories rather than a short story collection. It begins with distinguished weird stories and concludes with non-weird stories of Paris and the 1890s that are atmospheric and engaging (my favourite being The Street Of The Four Winds). It has a most peculiar and attractive structure to it and I don't think Chambers matched it afterwards.Of the available editions I would half-recommend the "library" edition, but this has some typos in it. I regret very much to say that there does not appear to be an ideal edition available. This book is worth including in Penguin and Modern Classics. The reader should approach it as it is written, exactly as it is. A magical classic of the era.

Great stories but not a great book
Came with a different cover than pictured, the cover was plain brown with no illustrations. The printing quality was also poor, some pages were printed at an angle and some words are difficult to read. This book not only contains the short stories about the king in yellow but also several unrelated ones. However this is still a very enjoyable read and I would recommend it to any fan of horror writers such as Lovecraft or Poe.

Which edition?
This is an excellent book, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys weird fiction. The problem is that the reviews here are for several different editions and it seems impossible to tell which edition people are reviewing!I have bought several editions, including an "annotated" edition with no annotations, and an "illustrated" edition with a few splodgy images that seemed to have nothing to do with the text. There was one that included the "Project Gutenberg" copyright notice! I was recently given a hardback (as opposed to a kindle version) which only includes the first four stories, and also has the introductory poem missing. If fact I have only come across one really well formatted, nicely illustrated edition (only available on Kindle. Hopefully, one day, I'll find a good hardback edition, maybe! The best advice I can offer is "buyer beware".

A game of two -halves
I love the writing from this period so it was always to my to be a winner with me. A strangely interconnected set of stories that start out in madness but have love as their common theme.

Worth the buy
Very interesting book, a different genre worth the read since it's not too extensive. Also like the material in the cover.

Cover is of the worst quality of paper ever, ripped during delivery
As pic related, the cover is made of some kind of toilet paper. Don't buy this.I did a refund and they sent me another AGAIN with a ruptured cover. Just terrible.
