Our Norwegian Forest Cat's coat was developing thick matted areas where he insists on sitting in the garden when it's raining. As he has a double coat (long hair over sheep like fleece) he isn't bothered about the rain and his undercoat grows into felt-like clumps which are hard to remove and obviously cause him pain. This grooming rake does help remove the clumps and has proved successful in grooming him in combination with his usual brushes. One thing to remember is not to just drag it through animal's coat as you might as well just grab the hair and yank it out, well that's how the animal would envision the experience and refuse to allow rake to be used again. Follow grooming instructions, use with consideration and have a tangle free pet. One point to note, the blades are not sharp, in fact they are blunt, so no concerns about injuring your pet. I added this a couple of days later and should have mentioned it in the first edit:- take your time when grooming with the rake, let your pet become confident with using the rake and don't rush the grooming. We've found our cat is now confident in having the rake used on him, especially as we don't drag it through his coat. rake has proved very effective in getting the lumps out.

I have a one year old Maine coon and although I groom him daily he hates it. It's been so stressful and I've been unable to keep him free of mats which I end up having to cut out. I've bought a number of different grooming tools including a furminator, tangle teasers, a rake and an expensive brush. Nothing really worked. I bought this, desperate to find something that would work with his coat. To be honest I was half expecting it to be more money down the drain but wow! It's a game changer. Absolutely fantastic at getting to the undercoat. His whole coat feels different after only a few days of use. Definitely a five star buy.

It does the job very well, but 2 things,1. Jo B said " but I'd add a word of warning - it isn't very forgiving on existing knots and so be careful as it can pull and cause a bit of discomfort if you're not careful with it." Jo is right you really do need to take care with existing knots, it will make the skin become very sore very quickly, so be prepared to the first time you use this you may need to spread it over a several days as your dog/cat will need time for their skin to recover.2. It says this is a 'M' medium but its definatly NOT a M its an "S" if you have a medium+ dog you will need to find a larger version, because even if your dog is short haired or not many knots, it will still take a long time and will make your pets skin very sore if you try and do all the fur in one go. This is why i marked this as 4/5

Really great if you have a dog with long hair. Does it’s job and sturdy

This is the best tool I’ve found for removing matted fur from my elderly Maine Coon x Ragdoll who hates being groomed!As he’s got older he’s less agile and struggles to keep himself clean towards the bottom of his back and his chest. I asked my vet if they would groom him but I was too worried about the risks of sedation to put him through it, plus the €200 price tag!Back to the tool… it’s very comfortable in the hand, the inside of the curved hooks are blades with rounded ends for comfort. Each side has the blades spaced differently giving you options for different areas and degrees of knot. Each pull through the fur removes huge amounts of unwanted fur with little or no complaint from my boy.I’ve literally bought dozens of grooming tools before, this one is hands down the best from his point of view and mine, plus it saved me a small fortune and gave me peace of mind not having to risk putting him under anaesthesia at this stage of his life.

This is a good size for our small wire hair terrier. Easy to hold and very effective at thinning under coat. We don’t use frequently to avoid over thinning.

This tool is amazing for my two springers. They have very thick and wild hair which mats very easily. This tool is great for thinning the long and thick areas and for breaking up mats. Best used along with something like a plain metal toothed comb.

This works fantastic. My cat has no matts but it removes the underneath hair and there is no shedding all over. I haven't seen any hairballs either. My boy loves the comb and rolls over when he sees me with it. It doesn't seem to hurt at all. The hair comes right out with no tugging. I am so happy with it.

It works great. But the kitty isn't too pleased with it, being a long-haired cat.It really helps with mats in the fur. Just be gentle and patient. It really does it's job well. Regardless of the type of brush/comb whatever it is you use, your cat won't be happy unless you shave your cat because that isn't pulling the fur.Would buy again. But it's really beefy and seems like it's gonna last

I'm so pleased with this tool. Our salon had suggested a wire brush, but that was rough on my cockapoo regardless of how frequently I tried to use it. She was much more comfortable being groomed with this tool. The directions on the packaging were thorough - thought I'd add that I found it easy to work from ends up, even, just as I do when my own long hair is tangled.

I was not so sure when I was buying this product. My cat has medium hair and I thought that it will be good for her tail only. I believed more in Furminator which I bought at the same time. However, after a few months I can say that this Grooming Brush by DakPets is waaaay better.1. My cat loves it and treats it as a toy sometimes when I am grooming her. She always purrs at the time.2. It catches LOTS of hair all over her body.3. My cat's hair looks much better after grooming with this tool.4. I can use it everyday, which saves me lots of cleaning of my sofa or clothes etc.I recommend this product to all medium hair cat owners.
