HART OF DIXIE:S1 (DVD/S) [2012]

I liked the premise behind this show as it reminded me of the old Michael J Fox film Doc Hollywood. New Dr who thinks they're going to be a big shot with their career all mapped out getting thrown a life curve ball.Didn't really think my wife and I were going to enjoy it as much as we have though to be honest. As an added bonus I think there's 22 episodes in this set rather than the usual 6-10 you get with a first series. We're still only in to the 3rd disc now.If you wanted to be over critical there's probably a lot of things you could pick holes in. For example the main character is supposed to be a career driven woman striving to impress her father (a top surgeon himself) as a seriously good Dr but then she wonders around in heels that Victoria Beckham would struggle walking in. Yet with all the nit picking aside this show weirdly just works. I think possibly it's because nearly all of the characters are very likeable.It's set in a small town deep in Alabama with pretty much every Southern stereotype you can think of getting a go. Well saying that there's been no KKK and the mayor of the towns actually a black ex-pro footballer (who's got some pretty damn cool tattoos btw) so possibly not that stereotypical. Yet rather than detracting from the show these just seem to add to the fun of it.There's more than quite a few laughs to be had in every episode and the story lines are usually good fun rather than being deep. Think more Sweet home Alabama rather than Mississippi Burning.We liked the series Suits, which we'd watched before this, a hell of a lot. So the next offering was always going to have a tall act to follow. This show whilst perhaps not being quite of that caliber does have the same kind of feel good factor about it and comes highly recommended.

Zoe is from New York and wants to be a doctor but after graduating top of her class from medical school, she'll follow in her father's footsteps and become a cardio-thoracic surgeon. But when her dreams fall apart, Zoe takes off to Bluebell after help from a friend who turns out to be a big part in her life that she never even knew off ...She does not quite fit in to BlueBell but her friend Lavon Hayes, who is the mayor , is always there for her .. he gets her settled in and she shares power of her house with Wade Kinsella ( A bartender and Zoe's neighbor) who starts to get feelings for Zoe but she does not at first share the feelings as she has spotted a cute and charming man called George Tucker who gave her a lift to Bluebell but he happens to be Lemon's fiance...LEOMON Breeland ! A snob and kind of a mean girl to Zoe also does not help that she has to share the her new Patrice that her little friend helped her get with the other doctor in town, Brick Breeland, is less than pleased to be sharing the practice ..Who is lemons dadLOL So if your looking for Drama and unexpecting moments then you should watch this give it a chance to the 7th eposide it gets going !If you like The O.C and Dawson's Creek or Glimor Girls or 90210 etc...Giive it a go

Hart of Dixie is so much fun to watch! You are transported to a different time and place, its a laugh a minute and the clothes are lovely if a bit OTT! Ive watched all 4 series now and am gutted they didnt make more!!

Ever since the digital switchover I haven't been able to get TV reception, and now rely on boxed sets to get my viewing fix (my street is a bit of a dead-zone and most people have freesat or sky it seems...with heavy rain affecting my neighbour's freesat reception I was not keen on paying a hefty licence fee!) After watching 'House' every week at University I developed a taste for medical dramas like Grey's, and decided to look for other series to get hooked on whilst awaiting Grey's Season 10 to come out on DVD.First off, if you're looking for a medical show then you may be disappointed - there is very little actual 'doctoring' here, and sometimes I was left wondering if/when the character of Zoe Hart actually went to work! Rachel Bilson is not convincing when dealing with some of the more technical medical terms either, which was a bit of a shame. To be honest, her acting is probably the worst thing about this show; often during the first few episodes it felt like she was just reading her lines rather than acting them, with some of her performances reminding me of Sixth Form plays at school. After a few episodes I did manage to get past that aspect, but can't help feeling the show would be excellent if only someone else was cast in the lead role.Hart of Dixie isn't a 'serious' drama. I read a review where it had been described as a 'cartoon version of the South', which is almost true. The story lines are light hearted and fun, and the characters mostly exaggerated for effect. Some of the Southern accents leave a lot to be desired, however this all adds to its charm. As Season 1 progresses, some of the more 'serious' story lines develop, particularly in relation to the background of Lemon, and Wade's family, which is where the show begins to pick up pace and the characters gain an added dimension. As with cartoons, colour and visuals play a large role here, and the blue-blue skies of Bluebell and vivid shots of dawn/twilight by the water are quite appealing, as are all the location shots. Interesting too to watch out for Lemon's yellow outfits, and the more muted shades chosen by her sister Magnolia!I still find it hard to warm to Rachel Bilson's Zoe, and at first I didn't think I'd get past that. For some reason however I found myself looking forward to the end of the day when I could go home and catch up with what was happening in Bluebell, and that's when I realised I liked the show. If it's medical drama you're after then you may be disappointed, but if you just want something unchallenging and quirky with a large dose of cheese for good measure, then look no further. The vivid colours of Bluebell are the perfect antedote to the dark winter evenings if you're willing to persevere with Bilson's at times clunky acting.

I loved the show and really wanted to see the other three seasons. I was willing to pay, I had no objections to that part, yet when I got to season two I found that none of the other seasons are available. If that’s the case then season one should have been free. I’m finding I am paying for more things I want to watch than just being able to watch. Why do I pay yearly for my prime if I’m having to pay for most of them. Even shows that we’re once part of the package, now have to be purchased. I’m not very satisfied at the moment with prime video. The five stars are for the series, not prime, they would be given three on a good day.
