Scorpio Vertigo Lanyard Climbing Set

I bought this lanyard specifically to use while climbing the Half Dome cable route at Yosemite National Park. I felt confident and safe while clipped in using this lanyard. It worked as advertised and I'll continue to trust it on other Via Ferrata routes.

Used this for several via ferratas in Norway and Switzerland. It's strong, trustworthy, and does what it's designed for well. Fit was perfect and felt completely safe to use.

We used this for our hike to Half Dome in September 2024 and was very happy with our purchase. We did not rely solely on it as it is not required to clip into the cables, but it gave us a peace of mind. Easy to use and it's a quality product. Highly recommend!

ESSENTIAL (when paired with a proper climbing harness) for the Half Dome cables. If you want to clip yourself In, which I recommend you do, this is the only way to do it right. Attaching climbing rope to carabiners is only going to give you a false sense of security. I am extremely pleased with my purchase, helped give me the confidence to climb half dome! Even if you trust your own skills, anything can happen on the cables. A pole could get pulled out of the rock (I saw it happen). A water bottle or phone could fall and someone inadvertently reaches for it, etc... the peace of mind this gear offers is worth its weight in gold.

Pros: -As you would expect from Petzl, extremely well made, sturdy -Spring-loaded gates are secure but can still unclip/re-clip quickly with a glove on. My son and I used on Half Dome cables, and no one behind us, without protection, was proceeding any faster. -"Accordion" lanyard is a plus - it's not dragging too far behind you when you need to change at junctions, you don't need to keep it between your hands on the cable. But you can "stretch" the lanyard (gently!) and lean back and rest full weight on it as is needed. -Really clear instructions -Pretty compact, given what it can do Cons: -Wish the grey harness connection loop was a wee bit longer, to accommodate more types of harnesses, like the BD Alpine Bod. I ended up using doubled and reversed locking biners as my connection point instead. (And other climbers, please don't comment on how safe/unsafe this added piece in the system is, as the climbing boards are already filled with this debate, thanks.) Recommend you practice at home first before you use for real on something more vertical.

First time my wife and I have walked a Via Ferrate. It was a fairly mild route, but I found them very easy to use.

Great product! Was way cheaper to purchase in Europe though. Easy to use clips for the price but there are easier ones out there. Would highly recommend if your not doing a lot of Via ferret's. Very happy with it an love the colour.

Das Petzl Scorpio Vertigo Klettersteigset ist das leichteste am Markt, deswegen will ich schauen, welche Kompromisse dafür eingegangen wurden. >>> Spezifikation Das Klettersteigset erfüllt die EN 958 Norm von 2017 und ist damit für verschiedene Gewichtsklassen (40-120kg) ausgelegt. Überraschend ist, dass der Sack mit dem Bandfalldämpfer trotzdem sehr klein ist. Die Transportasche ist sehr einfach gestaltet. Man spart auch hier Gewicht. Die Arme des Klettersteigsets sind elastisch. Es gibt auch eine eigene Schlaufe für eine Selbstsicherung. Aufgrund der Kürze des Sacks für den Bandfalldämpfers war diese Erweiterung offenbar notwendig. Wenn man den Karabiner für die Selbstsicherung direkt in die Schlaufe für die elastischen Arme einhängen müsste, hätte man zu wenig Spielraum. Das Set wiegt ohne Transporttasche 375g und mit 403g. Die Tasche wiegt also fast nichts. Um das Klettersteigset am Klettergurt zu befestigen, muss man zuerst den Sack für den Bandfalldämpfer öffnen. Damit wird die Schlaufe größer und man kann sie mittels Ankerstich befestigen. >>> Meine Meinung Offensichtlich ist bei diesem Set alles auf Gewichtsersparnis ausgelegt. Angefangen von der dünnen Tasche bis zum Bandfalldämpfer und den Karabinern. Mir gefällt, dass der Bandfalldämpfer so klein ist. Deswegen ist er nie im Weg. Das Einbinden in den Klettergurt ist sehr schlau gelöst. Da die Schlaufe zum Einbinden relativ klein ist und der Bandfalldämpfer so klein, hat man im Vergleich zu anderen Klettersteigsets eine geringere Reichweite. Dazu kommt, dass man die Arme nicht sehr weit dehnen kann. Deswegen ist das Set von Petzl v.a. auch für kleinere Personen geeignet, man muss sich näher am Stahlseil bewegen. Dafür stört eben der Bandfalldämpfer beim Gehen kaum. Das Design gefällt mir sehr gut, die Farben blau und orange sind ein echter Hingucker. Das Öffnen der Vertigo-Wire-Lock-Karabiner ist definitiv gewöhnungsbedürftig. Man öffnet sie, indem man eine Hülse nach unten zieht. Damit sich die Karabiner nicht verschieben, sind sie mit Gummistoppern gesichert. Ich befürchte, dass sie sich mit der Zeit abnützen. Bei klassischen Klettersteigsets gibt es eine eigene Öffnung für das Band, was natürlich auf Kosten des Gewichts geht. Wie man auf meinen Fotos sieht, ist die Öffnung des Petzl Karabiners ziemlich groß, was mir sehr gut gefällt. >>> Fazit Ich bin sehr fasziniert von diesem Set und wie ausgetüftelt alles ist. Wie robust dieses Set ist, wird sich mit der Zeit zeigen. Leider wird es in China hergestellt. An den Mechanismus für das Öffnen kann man sich gewöhnen. Trotzdem kann es in der Hitze des Gefechts mühsam sein, diese Vertigo-Wire-Lock-Karabiner zu öffnen. Ich kann das Petzl Scorpio Vertigo Klettersteigset trotzdem sehr empfehlen. Wenn man leicht unterwegs sein will – und wer will das am Berg nicht – gibt es daran keinen Weg vorbei. Ihr könnt das Video in besserer Qualität sehen, wenn ihr auf YouTube nach "schwammerl testet Petzl" sucht.
