Moog ST8561L Strut and Coil Spring Assembly

These were installed on my 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. Originally, I purchased 2 struts from my local auto parts store along with a coil spring compressor. I found instructions online that were an immense help. When removing the stabilizer link be certain not to turn the bolt when removing the nut. Instructions said there were flats to keep the bolt from turning and although I had an 18mm wrench it needed to be thin but I used a torx bit to hold the bolt from turning and used the wrench to loosen and remove the nut. There is a 10mm bolt that keeps a clamp for the ABS line in place. The two lower bolts secure the clevis and are difficult to remove if you are not aware they get corroded and need some coaxing to get out. I loosened the nuts with an impact wrench on one side but had to use a 1/2" drive bar and socket on the other. Don't take the nuts all the way off because you'll want to get the head of the nut level with the end of the bolt. Then you can bang away. The bolt has serrations next to the bolt head and you must not allow them to turn, otherwise you might strip the bore of the hole. Once the bolts are out you simply remove the 3 nuts inside the engine compartment using a 12mm wrench. After being given the wrong spring compressor twice I returned everything back to the store and checked Amazon for a replacement and found these Moogs. I did a little research and bought these that were delivered in 2 days as a Prime member.The installation of the first strut took a little time because I fussed aligning the 3 studs on the top and was very careful not to turn any of the bolts mentioned above. The 2 lower bolts have a funny torque setting. After torquing the bolts to 60ft-lbs you must crank them another 90 degrees.Why 5 stars? Because I could not give them 6 stars. Compared to my OEM struts (at 82,000 miles) the Moog struts showed a much better quality to begin with and appears to have a better designed valving system. Up on the strut tower where the 3 studs are located Moog installed a taller stud to make it easier to line up and attach the nuts. The nuts were brand new replacements included in the package. The lower bolts were also new that were included and were coated for corrosion and had a light grease already applied to aid in installation. You may not think of these small items as a big deal but the possibility of having a corroded or damaged connection is very real. After installing the driver side taking my time I did the passenger side which took a little over 1/2 hour. My wife and I took a short drive and she could feel the difference within 5 minutes, as a passenger. I'm not sure but I believe my Caravan drives better than first out the door. The best part was I paid nearly half what the auto parts store wanted for one of these assemblies.

Used Moog ST8561L Strut and Coil Spring Assembly to replace Monroe Quickstruts on 2006 Chrysler mini-van - MUCH BETTER! Restored the ride height, reduced body roll and greatly improved overall handling and ride. Straight forward installation and perfect fitment. Only a few days after installation, but very happy with product so far! Don't forget to check your sway bars for replacement while your in there! Alignment is a must after installation. Great product!Update: 10K+ miles and one year later - couldn't be happier with these struts!

Not to happy with receiving a suspension part that had previously been mounted to a vehicle. This is a family van and I have no idea what to expect from this part.UPDATE: As suspected this strut is defective, it rattles over bumps which is probably why it was returned. I’m stuck with it now as it was professionally installed and alignment preformed. Not a satisfied customer.

Moog is a good product that I have used many years. The ST8561L is the left front strut and it is supposed to have a left wound spring instead of a right wound. The picture (generic) doesn't say anything. Due to time scrunch I had to use it anyway, so I am not real happy with this purchase.

GOOD RIDE , WAS EASY TO INSTALL AFTER I GOT THE OLD ONE OFF. BE CAREFULL REMOVING THE OLD ONE AS MINE HAD COME APART AND THE SPRING WAS LOOSE . HAD TO SECURE THE SPRING BEFORE REMOVING

The left strut assembly is an easy drop in replacement. 3 bolts, 4 nuts - done.The brake line and ABS sensor wiring are connected to a bracket that you will want to reuse.This part will fit several vehicles. So, it is not included.As usual when replacing suspension components, plan for an alignment.The strut mount I received was 90degrees off with respect to the mounting bolts. This is not a show stopper.The longer bolt which would normally be clear of the cowling is now under it making for a tight fit.A little more attention during manufacturing could have prevented this minor error.Front end ride is now nice and smooth in 1.5 hours (45 minutes per side) - with most of the time required to remove the old parts.

Overall disappointing. Squeaky seat on strut.Fair ride and handling. needed grease right away. Customer service @ moog never responded to my email. Not as good as KYB imo; so spend the extra $25.Made in China.
