Q: Are they good for working out like in a gym?

I would not use them in the gym, cause the material is very warm. So you will sweat a lot.

Q: what is the length waist-to-hem for size Medium, please?

Order a size smaller than your usual.I got a lge and could have had a spare pair made from the exsess.

Look at the "product details" fella - it specifies the waist size. They're quite loose though (or mine at 38" are anyway), so you may want to underestimate your girth iykwim. Very comfy though - I'd not pass the front door in them, but great for slobbing out around the house!
