Worth the money. Saves time.
I do a lot of tig welding on aluminum anything from 1/16"-1/2" on boats. I love running my Everlast 225EXT but it can get time consuming especially on 1/4" and large projects. I have never ran a spool gun before but if you have ran a mig welder before you will catch on pretty quick. I have a hobart 210 MVP using this gun and it runs great. One thing that will probably surprise you is the argon gas flow needs to be around 30-35 cfh and the wire speed is pretty fast, on mine it's from 70-100 I will suggest that you bend a quick fish hook in your wire because when you ark up cold the wire wants to jam into the metal and cause a backlash in the rollers. It welds fast so be ready for it. Most of the tubing on the Boat T-top was welded using the spoon gun. Hope this helps you. Thanks Smitty

You can buy that piece from airgas for like $17. Unless you happen to come across a ...
Heads up. this is not miller compatible with the millermatic series. I have the 140. The brass connector for gas and power is a smaller diameter and it does not come with anything you need to use it with a millermatic 140/160/190. I had a spare miller mig gun and so I removed the connector end, made a coupler and installed a plug so it wouldnt lose gas. You can buy that piece from airgas for like $17. Unless you happen to come across a situation like I did where time was important, I wouldnt do this as I had to also buy a 6 connector 3 position switch from Nappa parts store works just as good and wire it in. I actually used jumpers the first 2 days. Hopefully this program will allow me to come back and edit this so the handiwork can be seen. all in all I saved $85 and didnt lose production time. reason for purposely buying this an making it work, one word, TIME!!! They didnt have a miller available for prime account, and next 2 day shipping was close to $60. took me an hour longer to to install this one over not having the right fit from a miller. WORKS LIKE A CHARM AND IM LUVIN IT!!

Great quality
I usually TIG weld aluminum, but I wanted to weld thicker/larger pieces faster. To MIG weld aluminum requires spray transfer, and 200 amps is about the bottom end for thicker pieces. The Hobart 210 MVP with the addition of this SpoolRunner 100 spool gun welds 1/4 inch aluminum like lightning! I can weld in a 1/4 of the time of TIG. No stack of dimes look, but nice smooth fully penetrated welds. Now I can use my TIG for what it's best at, heat control on thin material. BTW, If your looking for an industrial/commercial spool gun, look elsewhere. Like the similar Miller spool gun, this gun is top quality and made of a tough resin, but is not designed for continuous use.

Works surprisingly good, though it heats up fast.
This works pretty well. This thing also gets really hot. I ran about 4' of bead and had to stop to change gloves midway. I did have the mechanism jam up on me once, and it was a pain to clean out the plastic gears and tip, but overall for the cost this is a great addition to my setup for the occasional aluminium job(in my case an heavy-duty trailer ramp). Not sure what caused the jam, it only happened once in close to 20' of joints of all sorts. I should also mention that on long runs, I did feel some power fluctuation, not sure of the cause. I am using with a 210MVP @ 230v. Will post more if it happens again and I can narrow it down. Overall, very happy.

Welds fine, loads poor
Bought this unit to match to my Hobart 210 for aluminum welding. 1st off I have to say loading this gun is a nightmare. When I say nightmare I wish it was as easy as a nightmare. Spent nearly 45 minutes the 1st attempt, and had to take the gun apart to try and clear a jam. I don't think this will be a "practice makes perfect" It is just a very poor design. The problem is, the upper roller lifts to open the jaws to allow the wire to load through. The bottom roller is fixed and it too high. so when you push the wire from the back it hits the roller and lifts it too high to thread it through the next part. You have to pull the wire out and try "pre bending" exactly right to get it to fish through. They needed to add an access hole after the rollers so you can use a thin screwdriver to help line up the holes after the roller. Once loaded it works like a charm and lays down some nice welds. So far I have welded as thin as .125 plate but butt welds. This was a little tricky and you have to move fast to keep from burning through, not the prettiest but strong. As thick as 1/4" extrusions this welded very nice and laid down some nice dimestacks.

A must for Aluminum
This gun has made a world of difference in my aluminum welding. My MIG welder lays down some really nice beads now (where I struggled before).

Pretty tough to weld 1/16" aluminum tubing but it is ...
Hooked this up to my retrofitted Hobart 140 to weld some 1/8" aluminum square tubing and it has been working flawlessly. Pretty tough to weld 1/16" aluminum tubing but it is still doable with this gun, but if welding thin stuff like that stick to TIG. I've only had two jams and that was due to user error but it was fixed in a couple minutes with some needle nose pliers. I'm using 100% argon and have gotten some really good beads if you can find that perfect angle. Great gun for the price, worth every penny, from hobbyist to intermediate.

THERMO PLASTIC!!!!
This thing is terrible. I have owned it for a very long time. I only use it once in a while because when I do It starts melting where the heatsink is mounted, because its THERMOPLASTIC. look at the vid.. I have to reshape it and let it cool every time I use it.. and now it totally disconnected and is no longer usable. I'm about to get in fusion360 and make an aluminum one on the cnc. And I was going to sugest hobart do the same and sell them for double, But I noticed the price ALREADY did.. I got this for $150 and It was a ripoff then NOW $300!! I'm out. No more hobart anything for me ty.
