Product Description Site your Bee & Bug Biome in a sheltered position from floor level up to 2 metres above ground level on a wall; shed; fence or pole or similar. It is important that it faces South to South East to catch the morning sun. Do not site under shaded tree canopies. The top chamber will encourage safe solitary bees to nest and features seven wooden nesting tubes in a bee block & bamboo tubes of various sizes. The larger feeding hole is for insects such as ladybirds; earwigs & lacewings. Why not try some Ladybird Food/Attractant to encourage them in. If you see the bee block & tubes filled by the end of summer; it is a good idea to cover them with a piece of chicken wire 25mm from the face of the biome to prevent woodpecker attack. The lower chamber is filled with pine cones to provide nooks and crannies for beneficial insects such as lacewings that are great natural predators of aphids. The wooden retainer dowel can be removed so that alternative natural materials such as straw or bark can be introduced to provide a safe over-wintering habitat for lacewings; ladybirds; wood louse; earwigs etc. Try attracting lacewings in autumn with Wildlife World Lacewing Attractant. Use your Species Guide to help identify the solitary bees; mining bees and hoverflies visiting the Bee and Bug Biome and plant the native wild flower seeds to attract helpful pollinators to your garden Box Contains 1 x Insect Habitat 1 x Solitary Bee Wildflower Seed Pack 1 x Solitary Bee Identification Guide 1 x Solitary Bee Life Cycle Guide

Not impressed
I bought this for a gift. Decided to open it to see the quality as I've seen other reviews that haven't been great (but not the worst and also the recent reviews seemed more positive than older ones etc) anyway, needless to say I'm not overly impressed.. it's one of the more expensive bee and bug hotels and I expected a little more.. there's a broken bamboo, quite a number of gaps and crooked ones.. looks like it was made with off cuts, lots of splinters and cracks.. considering returning it after I contact the seller.

At last, an affordable home.
The hills are alive with bugs next spring. So that's when I'm fixing it to a wall for the early bug rush. It's beautifully made and painted in good looking colours so no decent bee/bug passing by should ignore it. If you're one of these please pop by!

As advertised but shop around for cheaper
Nothing wrong with this product at all, it does exactly what is described and the quality is fine. Only knocked down in star ratings as you can get the same for a fraction of the price in those 'bargain home stores' re arrange that and you know where I mean. Oh and other point which had no bearing on the product but this has been in place with insect loving plants all summer and I'm yet to see a single bug use it which is a downer.

Could not recommend enough!
I bought this bee hotel last spring/summer, and within a few weeks of putting it up it the bees had started to lay their eggs and seal up the tunnels. By the end of the summer there were only a few unfilled holes. Now (May) the bees are starting to hatch, and there are only a couple that have not emerged. The hotel is a hive of activity, with bees going in and out all the time when it's sunny.I recommend putting it somewhere sheltered and against a sunny wall. Also, don't let it get too wet in the winter. I moved mine into a carport.

Great addition to the garden!
The price was good - the cheapest I have seen in my search. Quality of the item is good. It's exactly as it looks. Read the information leaflet on the best place to hang it. I hope that lots of little bugs & bees are enjoying their hotel! I haven't had any bad reviews left on Trip Advisor ;o)

So I haven't actually seen it but she is very happy with it
I bought this as a present for my sister. So I haven't actually seen it but she is very happy with it. The only comment she made was that she felt it needed an additional fixing to attach it to the wall to make it more secure, as she was worried that high winds would be able to blow it off the wall. At time of writing no insects had taken up residence but it has only recently been put up.

English and French bees can use this item
A very attractive well made item! however the one I received was not the exact same model as the one in the picture i.e. no metal label and other differences but this was not really a problem for me. The wild bees have already started to take up residence after only a couple of weeks. A very informative leaflet is included describing the life cycles of the various bee species. I say very informative if you can read FRENCH but unfortunately I struggle in this department. Overall very pleased with this Bee @ Bug Biome.
