## Description

Product Description Entering the Matter Era Why Thread Protocol? The P2 supports Matter natively, and connects directly to the most popular ecosystems and Aqara Home in the near future through the Matter-compatible Aqara Thread border router*. What is required? Matter Controller or Thread Border Router Support To add the P2 to a particular Matter-enabled app, your device or devices will need to have both functionalities, therefore a 2-in-1 Matter Controller & Thread Border Router is needed as a minimum requirement. Always-on Open/Close Detection Stay informed and secure with real-time notifications on your smartphone whenever the sensor detects activity. You'll never miss a potential security threat, whether you're at home or away. By installing the P2 on a first aid kit, medical professionals can monitor when it is opened, ensuring that it is used appropriately and restocked when necessary. The P2 can also be placed on a safe box in a home or office to alert owners if it is opened by unauthorized personnel, preventing the loss of important documents, cash, or valuables. Maximizing Efficiency with Voice Assistants You can receive alerts, or ask about whether a door is open, keeping you on top of things at home. The sensor is easy to install with its strong sticker and an alternative flat magnet. Equipped with a powerful CR123A battery, it provides uninterrupted protection. Additional Features via OTA Settings through the Aqara Home app will be expanded with the future launch of the Hub M3 Save the energy when the door or window is open IF Door and Window Sensor P2 is opened THEN Turn off the thermostat to reduce energy consumption and your carbon footprint No more lights suddenly turning off IF Door and Window Sensor P2 is opened (i.e. the toilet cover was opened, which indicates that the toilet is used) THEN Deactivate the automation "Turn off the light if no motion was detected for 2 minutes" Comparison of Aqara Smart Device Door and Window Sensor P2 Video Doorbell G4 Presence Sensor FP2 Smart Lock U200 Aqara Hub M3 Hub G3 Radiator Thermostat E1

Review: Easy to install, responds rapidly, no hub required - This is one of the first Thread- and Matter-based devices from Aqara. Thread devices are still fairly new to market and I've found that some other competing devices are quite buggy. This one was very straightforward and worked exactly as expected. The sensor is supplied with strong adhesive strips and also an optional magnet if required. I found the adhesive was more than sufficient to stick to the door and door-frame. Most older Aqara devices are Zigbee-based and need an Aqara hub, which acts as a Matter bridge to Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home. This sensor directly supports Matter-over-Thread, so no additional hub was required. Instead it connects wirelessly with my Apple TV which contains a Thread border router. Installation to Apple Home was a breeze; it paired very quickly after scanning the Matter QR code and then appeared in the Home dashboard. After that it was very easy to set up automations; I've set it to turn the kitchen heating off if the back door is open. The device responds almost instantly to opening and closing. Time will tell in terms of battery life. I wish all smart home devices were this simple!
Review: Works perfectly with Samsung Smartthings - My original Samsung Smartthings Multipurpose sensor worked intermittently for a number of years, but eventually failed. So I replaced it with a new one from Samsung's new supplier Aeotec. This was completely useless and took me an hour just to connect it to the Samsung hub. It worked intermittently for a day, so I returned it as unreliable. Instead, I bought the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 which worked perfectly. I started the Smartthings App, then pulled out the battery isolator tag from the Aqara device and the App recognised it straight away. I didn't even have to add a new device. I scanned the QR code and the device was installed automatically. I only had to specify which room I wanted it in. Works perfectly and only took a minute to install.

## Features

- [Native Matter Support over Thread] As one of the first sensors to support Matter, the P2 supports access to Apple Home, Google Home, desertcart Alexa and Samsung SmartThings. Meanwhile, as a sensor based on the Thread protocol, the P2 provides enhanced connectivity, low-power consumption, more stability and low latency.
- [Open/Closed Status Monitoring] With a built-in high-precision Hall sensor, the Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 can detect the opening and closing status of doors, windows, and drawers precisely. Once the sensor is triggered, it will send real-time alert notifications to your smartphone whether you're at home or away, ensuring you're always aware of any potential security concerns. (*Note: the functionality such as automation conditions may vary throughout the different ecosystems.)
- [Local Home Automations] You can integrate the Door and Window Sensor P2 with your smart home ecosystem to enable advanced automations like adjusting thermostat settings or activating security cameras when a door or window is opened. Moreover, the automations are executed without the cloud, which can protect the user’s privacy and will keep working even if there is no internet connection.
- [Voice Alerts and Status Notifications] The Aqara Door and Window Sensor P2 supports Apple Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. With these voice assistants, you can receive alerts about events such as door entries, or ask whether a door is open, allowing you to effortlessly monitor your home.
- [Matter Compatibility] A Matter Controller & Thread Border Router 2-in-1 is required to enjoy seamless integration with a Matter-enabled smart home ecosystem. Currently, the following hubs are tested, but new hubs will be added over time. Apple: Apple TV 4K (3rd gen, 128 GB), Apple TV 4K (2nd gen), HomePod (2nd gen), HomePod mini | Samsung: SmartThings Hub v3, Aeotec Hub v3, SmartThings Station | desertcart: Echo (4th gen) | Google: Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, Nest Wi-Fi Pro.

### ⭐ Despite a good reputation, Aqara products have spectacularly failed in my home setup
*by A***Y on 10 December 2025*

I had heard good things about Aqara products, and had high hopes for these Matter-compatible sensors. I bought five of them to cover all our external doors, along with the Aqara M3 hub. Unfortunately, for me, this was a poor decision. I have a fairly extensive home automation setup based on Apple Home, and am knowledgeable about tech, but these sensors did not play ball. Once I had set up the M3 hub and installed the Aqara app I start the process of adding the sensors through the app as child devices. All five failed - they would be recognised by the app, but when adding them to the hub I repeatedly received an "other error: code 1" message. While this was far from promising, I decided that I would bind the sensors through Apple Home directly after setting up the hub as a bridge. While the sensors would bind, some after a few attempts, they failed at their primary function of detecting the opening and closing of the doors. Of course I double checked that I had fitted them according to the instructions with the required distance between sensor and contacts. Both the sensors I fitted detected the door opening and closing a couple of times, but after that the status did not change, one stuck on closed and the other open. I did not fit all five sensors after this and continued to struggle with the two I had fitted. I removed them from Apple Home, factory reset the sensors and tried again. One sensor then wouldn't bind at all, failing multiple times. The other bound first time, but once again stopped sensing the movement of the door. Ultimately I gave up struggling and decided to return all my Aqara kit. Despite other good reviews my experience means that Aqara is now a brand I don't trust to perform as intended.
