Or, put another way, how far does the handle protrude?** A: You need 2 inches from the center of the hole for the handle to rotate to the rear 1/4 turn. I'd want 2.25 or more inches. **Q: Do you have to turn and hold the handle constantly in order to get hot water or can you turn and let go?** A: This is a safety feature; user must turn and hold handle for hot water to dispense. In previous models our cold side repeatedly broke (wouldn’t stay on by itself). This updated design not only looks nice, but the water flow is significantly more and is smooth and works so well. We are so happy with ours! PS: it would have taken my supply store 6 weeks to get this but Amazon had it to me in 2 days. Plumber installed. Easy to use.
