reliability at a reasonable price
I installed a Topens A8 gate actuator kit in July of 22. I also installed a wired keypad and a lock for my gate. If you can read, have ta bit of mechanical aptitude and have the tools, you can easily install these components. This gate has cycled at least 8 times a day for the last 3 and 1/2 years without any issues. A friend of mine put in a new gate and asked about my opener system. I told him it was the way to go, he bought the same Topens actuator kit , lock and keypad for his new gate. I helped him install the system, it was easier the second time, it operates exactly as expected. I did make a programing error and contacted the Topens technical assistance. The customer service rep pointed out my error, I made the correction and we were up and running immediately. If your looking for reliable gate opener that is reasonably priced, easily installed and has great customer service you should be shopping for Topens products.

Plenty of Power
Excellent opener. However, for the price it should come with the battery necessary to operate the motor. I also wish there was a speed adjustment. Overall though, it does its job and my wife is happy.

Very strong
This thing is so much better than the mighty mule I mean Iโve only had it working for a couple weeks now, but it is so much stronger and quieter than the mighty mule. I have a 14 1/2 foot gate that I made myself out of 2 3/8 thin wall pipe no I donโt know the exact weight of the gate but Iโm guessing 250 maybe 300 pounds and this thing swings it like itโs not even there I like the soft close feature. and the electric lock takes a lot of pressure off of the actuator on a windy day. Iโve had two of the mighty mules granted they were the smaller models.3500 I believe is what the model was but I burn two of them up in one year like I said Iโve only had this one going for a bout a month so itโs a little premature I will give a year end review but so far, Iโm really liking it. Itโs faster than the mighty mule as well. The only thing I donโt like is the cheap ass remote control the damn buttons. Get stuck itโs just cheaply made but other than that I love the gate opener I canโt say much about tech-support because I have not had to use them. It is pretty simple to install and Iโve had no problems with it. I highly recommend it if you have a heavy gate well worth the money.

Actual customer service from Topens. Read on if you're switching from a GTO MM opener
I'd finally given up on my GTSO opener after years of dealing with "Gates That Sometimes Open" AKA mightymule. With virtually no GTO customer service and little parts available I was just fed up and decided to try Topens. My bench test of the new kit confirmed that the opener control board was bad because the opener would not change direction. I was going to return the kit but Topens customer support promptly replied to both my amazon posted question and direct support email line. I had a new control board in 3 days covered under warranty. I was happy to find out that some of the GTO stuff works with the Topens, The arm mount bracket is compatible and with the included longer arm hinge extensions I was able to correct the original installers error that had the Hinges placed too far from one another making the gate VERY slowly in fact the UPS and Fedex drivers both said I had the SLOWEST gate on their route. Smaller A+B measurements will speed up the gate but the opener will work harder, so only recommended this for lighter gates. I was unable to get the old GTO receiver to work, if someone knows how let me know. The GTO remotes use a different frequency and don't work with the Topens control panel. The GTO MM key pads DO work with the Topens control box but only hard wired and since the Topens Keypads are over priced I reused my GTO keypads and went from previous wireless to a wired set up. Finally my old mighty mule control box holds everything quite well: Two 12v 7.2 AH batteries & the Topens controller & the Renogy solar controller all fit inside the old MM box for a clean look. I'd like the gate openers to open from farther away (currently about 60') so I am currently extending control box antenna with a 433mhz aftermarket antenna, I also bought the Topens external receiver but am reluctant to use it because its a continuous draw my batteries (no mains power as my gate is over 500' from nearest house outlet) The quality seems to be on par with my old gate opener which isnt impressive. Sum it up more money can be spent on openers but so far I'm pleased with what I paid for.

Off-grid Solar Panel Auto Gate Opener
I have bought TOPENS A8 auto gate opener, photo beam sensor TC102, exit wand car detector, touch panel wired keypad TC175P, and auto electric gate lock ET24. Two (2) 12VDC solar panels and two (2) 12 volt 12 AH F2 terminal rechargeable SLA AGM batteries are from Amazon other supplier. TOPENS provides a very good written Userโs Manual that explains all productsโ specs installation connection programming adjusting and setting. Very good tech support, answers questions quickly, and ships replacement promptly. Iโve designed and built a โParcel Drop Hereโ container that works for not only holding parcels but also all electric components and wiring inside to protect them from exposing to sun shine and rain. The parcel drops in front and being taken out from back. The back wall is transparent plastic such that I can see from distance if there would be parcel dropped. I construct a 3โx6โ 3-inch thick concrete slab such that the container can sit on it. Furthermore, because of having concrete slab I use 4โx4โ 6-feet post to support 16โ wide tube gate without worry its weight might bent the post. The wood frame structure is also needed to strengthen the post. Two (2) solar panels wired in series to charge two (2) connected in series 12V batteries that provide 24VDC to the entire auto gate system. Differentiating from a residential garage door opener, I install the Auto Close feature with a photocell beam sensor (PBS) and set it to 20 seconds to close the gate after being opened. Simply use a hang board, one can do Keep Open (block the PBS beam) and Auto Close (not block the PBS beam). The lawn mower guy finds this Keep Open is very useful when he is doing his lawn service. I have installed an exit wand such that our visiting guests can drive out the gate freely. All components in the system are under 24VDC operation. I love this off-grid system very much. It works great!

Replaced a mighty mule. Time will tell if that is the right decision.
Edit 3/28/24 It has been over 5 months and I have had no problems with this opener. The charger worked well with my 24 volt lithium ion battery. It does stall out while closing during a high wind and has to be cycled a second time. I cycled it dozens of times one day and the battery did not have a problem. The unlatch open key is directly on top and easily accessible. Since it is not a real key all would be the same which means that your key would open all gates. This could be problematic. I used it in conjunction with a latch that has a unique key to add to the security. I would buy this item again. I replaced a line of Mighty Mules 23 years long. I have gone through 7 mules. We are very lightning prone and there is no good way to ground these systems. I went with the Topens A8 because it looked like the mounting brackets were very similar to the Mules. Unfortunately there are slight differences and try as I might I was unable to use the Mule brackets on the Topens. If I had a fresh install, this opener would not have been any more difficult than the first Mule that I installed. With each Mule replacement, I just used the old brackets and control box and they were a breeze. Things I liked about the A8 Soft start and stop. Once you open and close a couple of times, it knows where you are going and slows the speed to softly land without beating up the gate. The unlatch key if the gate stops functioning. This is probably the main reason I switched. My last opener quit and I jumped the fence just to land on my butt. It is a simple matter to release the opener and open the gate. Things I do not like. 24 Volts. I could have mounted the A8 control box and a 12 Volt battery in the old Mule box. There is no battery box with the Topens. You need two 12 volt batteries in series to get the 24 volts. So you have to buy a separate box and run the wires to it. This is a messy install. The power supply to the board for charging the battery has a whopping 3 foot long cord. That is fine if you happen to have an outlet right at the gate but mine is about 10 foot away. The Mule has a transformer with screws on it so you can run as much wire as you need to the opener. The power supply is 36v to charge a 24 volt battery. There might be a charging circuit on the board to give the right voltage for the battery but I doubt it. I suspect the 36 volts will be dumped directly into the battery. I am using a 24 volt Lithium Ion battery so am not sure I trust that. I am just using the battery stand alone for now and will remove it when it needs charged and once charged put back in the battery box. Lithium Ion keeps voltage pretty flat so I think this will be fine for a while. I went a week and half with very little voltage drop. Several times I was tempted to return this but did not. Now that it is installed it looks good and I am happy, at least temporarily.

Real good quality Gate Opener
I Got the Topen Gate Opener A8 heavy duty. Amazed at the quality of the product, the metal plates for mounting opener is about 1/4 plate metal. Happy that there was mounting holes to mount the control box, But the AC Power supply does not have any mounting holes to mount box, and it don't come with the Opener. They do give you a small ac charger to charge the batteries, but its worthless to my application. Gate Opener was simple to setup and use. I watched the videos, and was able to copy for setup. They are very fast at shipping the products. I got all the accessories within 24 hours, and the Gate Opener in 2 days. Customer service is fast at responding to your questions. I did need a question answered even if they didn't answer the question correctly it was not need. I wanted to know how wide the opener is, it is about 3 1/2" wide. the issue was i needed to install between a concrete wall and the gate. I decided to place above the concrete wall and on the top fence rail. Oh Ya, my gate is light weight (about 100 pounds) but it is 20 feet long. But it works great. Only suggestion that I would like to see is a more complete kit form. Would like to know what I would need to order to complete this install. Like Gate lock, key pad, exit opener, and misc other items. If you want to know if i'd purchase again, I would say "Yes"

Quality products and fantastic customer service!!
purchased a Topens A8 gate opener a while back. Right from the get go, the customer service (Bella)) was outstanding. At first I was apprehensive and a bit uncertain about a problem with my gate opener online but Bella provided very thorough answers to all my questions and replied quickly. I went ahead and ordered the gate opener - it arrived shortly thereafter. Again with the clear instructions I was able to install the gate opener myself without any difficulty. It did take a couple of hours but it was all time spent in a forward moving direction (no guess work). Once installed the gate opener worked flawlessly. Recently, the gate opener stopped working. I contacted Topens (Bella)) again and asked if she could help me fix the problem. Again, Bella promptly sent me a clear checklist of items to help troubleshoot. Then once I replied with the results of the checklist, Topens FULLY HONORED their warranty and quickly sent me the piece that needed replacement. This was even though my warranty was at the tail end . The part arrived within 3-4 days and I was easily able to change it out for the malfunctioning piece. The gate opener worked like new again! I have been SO IMPRESSED with the Topens customer service. They have communicated very well, provide quick & thorough answers and stand behind their product. I can't think of anything else that I would wish for in a good company. I have no hesitation in recommending Topens and all theirs accessories! Thanks again for the BEST after sale service! Specially to Bella who was the best customer service representative to deal with!!

Update 2 - very happy with the purchase
I've only been using it for a week but so far very happy. It was pretty easy to install and the instructions were very good. I had questions before I bought it and contacted Topens and they replied very quickly with good information. I would not hesitate to recommend this product. (Until you read my update.) UPDATE - I removed one star. I live in windy Southern Alberta. In strong winds the gate will not open. It is nowhere close to the maximum weight so that isn't the problem. I've been told by Topens that the only solution is to not open the gate in windy conditions! So if someone is coming in, instead of standing in my house and opening the gate, I have to walk down to the gate, use the key to unlock it, tie it open, and then do the reverse when they leave. Not handy. This is a reasonably priced opener, as long as it fits your conditions. Update 2 - Added one star again. I purchased a second A8 complete kit and mounted it above the first, and hooked both into the same motherboard. It now works beautifully in the wind and I don't have to worry about the arm being bent. Even with having to buy two complete units, it is still reasonable. And now I have a spare motherboard.

Good Bang for your Buck!
Ok, here is the deal. I have installed a few of these systems now, so i have a pretty good idea how they work. For the money, they are worth it, but don't expect the actuators to last forever. At my last place the wires coming out of the actuator cracked and broke on both actuators within a few years. I eventually had to replace both actuators within 7 years. The new Topens control box is a breeze to set up and very user friendly. The one issue I had with the control box was that I did not get good reception for my FOB, so I drilled a tiny hole in the side of the box and threaded the antenna wire to the outside of the box and this solved my problem. I also purchased the AC power adapter (rather than using solar) but the adaptor box has no mounting holes or provisions to mount the box. The other issue with the AC adapter is that the power cord comes out the top of the box (considering the plug ins are usually installed closer to the ground, the cord placement seems weird) These are minor problems, and overall the system works well, it sure beats getting out of the vehicle every time we leave or come to the house.

great support and product!
my wife and i enjoy the convenience and reliability of this remote gate opener. recently had a malfunction which i thought might require an actuator replacement but when i reached out to evelyn at topens support, determined it a weak battery (i run 2x automotive batteries for 24v system) nothing to do with the topens product which has been great!

Glad I did the research and got this one.
This was pretty easy to set up. Instructions were better than typical for a Chinese-translated manual, and everything works. Adjustments are easy. The only irritation I found so far is the generic fobs I bought (not Topens own brand), which are supposed to be compatible, would not pair with it. I returned the fobs and got different ones that did pair ok. My only suggestion to Topens is to make the accessories like pin pads and find more competitively priced. While the basic kit is a great deal, they get you on all the extras that youโll likely need. My advice is download the manual and figure out the parts you need before you buy. It will make the install easier.
