A great anthouse. Fun for all
Great ant house, large sandwich with big foraging box. Took around a week to arrive from Spain. Ants were in a test-tube with some liquid food, large active queen with around 6 ants. I mixed the sand/clay with some water and got it in the sandwich part of the anthouse, bit of a potch because it was sticky but I got there. Then I sprinkled the blue grit into the foraging box and placed some of the small pebbles around. It was ready for the ants. It does say in the instructions that you can leave the ants in the test tube for some time but the kids (and me!) Couldn't wait. We released them and in just a short time the queen was digging down helped by her little workers. In no time at all the queen was gone with just the workers bringing up the sand. After a few weeks the ants are still digging out chambers helped by the queen and quite a lot of activity in the foraging box. I found that the ants love grass seed, taking them down into the nest as soon as I put some in. I have also put some red acetate on both sides of the sandwich box, stuck with bluetack so it can easily be removed for better viewing (see photos) I can still see the ants and it appears dark to the ants since they cannot see red light (makes them more likely to be active against the sides then and this I found to be true). All in all a great buy!

Good ant farm for beginners
I am a beginner ant farmer, new to the hobby but loving it so far! I got messor barbarus colony with about 8 workers on arrival.Would recommend this to new farmers, will need a larger formicarium once the colony becomes medium-large sized.

Bought his for partners birthday! Was a hit!
My partner had always wanted to keep ants, got him this for his birthday and was a huge hit! Great value and easy to set up. Communication with the seller with questions was superb! Great gift idea and looks great and great fun way to learn also!

Product as described
Product was as described and easy to set up, though it was a bit difficult to get the film off the glass. Ants appear healthy. Breed of ant was Lasius Niger, the common black garden ant, native to the UK.To be honest, never having kept ants before I have found them very underwhelming so far. I have had them for almost a month now, they barely move, haven't left the test tube and as far as I can tell the colony has not grown. Presumably this is because it's winter and they are hibernating... maybe they will be more active when it is warmer. Obviously this is not the fault of the vendor.

Just ok
Good product although quite small for the price. Hard to contact and their website is poor.

Bigger than expected and very impressed
The media could not be loaded. Wow it is bigger than I expected, and I am very impressed. The Ants are in good condition it seems and there were over thirty in the tube they arrived in.Setup was quite easy and quick although I wish I had mixed a little water in while the sand was in the bag rather than once it was in the habitat. I would have made it much more evenly moist but also far harder to get into the slot.Ants were released by pulling the cotton wad from the end of the tube and leaving it in the top area. Much digging has been taking place after they all had a drop (and I do mean a drop) of sugar water as they emerged in their own time from the tube. This is in my office at home as I thought there ought to be something that does work in there. I can see my productivity dropping though as they are fascinating to watch.

Arrived Cracked at the base and Ants are escaping from the roof lid.
Arrived Cracked at the base and Ants are escaping from the roof lid. I didn't realize this is dispatched from Spain so it won't be worth refunding considering I'll have to pay a fortune to return it... So I'll have to throw this away and find a different brand as I don't want to risk reordering if it'll be the same...
