THIS IS ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE PURCHASES/APPLIANCES EVER. I never smell a thing (well I did once, but that could have been the dog walking by) ha! It seriously has saved so much time and pain the ass thing to clean. Break it down to cost per day and it will be easier to get over the $$ hurdle. I will note that the app is pretty lame, but works.OPINION: The first thing I want to say is that for reviews that say it gets stuck or stops turning, I have had mine now for 6 months. I was having some of these issues a week ago, so I took it apart to deep clean. It was SO easy to take apart and put back together. Works like a charm and how it has been working for the whole time, until it needed a cleaning.NOTE: can see why people would be annoyed this needs to be done at all, but I have found recently (in my middle-age!) that the *things we use to clean* also need to be maintained and cleaned. Yes, it's irony at its best. I am including a few snaps, sorry for the actual #2s from the cat, but it shows how it can get caught over time.PHOTOS:--The photos that include the mess of litter and waste, those show where things were getting stuck, it still worked, but the litter was starting to spill out a bit and it got stuck twice (I literally turned so the waste would slide out the opening inside, used a cleaning brush to dust off and a little windex to finish it off.--The photo that includes the electrical board/etc. is there to show what not to clean or get wet. Mine was dry as a bone and that's how it should be (e.g. I didn't get any windex on it).--The last one shows how it looked 99% of the time, and how it looked after I cleaned it and put back together. WHICH IS SUPER EASY.LITTER: I use The World's Best Cat Litter. Pretty sure you can use whatever little you want, but I have not tested various kinds so do your research there.I will also add that my teenager has mostly been responsible for this entire operation, so she may have overloaded the litter box a few times. :)That's my .02

UPDATE - 10/26/23 (Original review below line):I wanted to love this self cleaning cat box so badly and this unit was a Godsend at first. I was completely sold by the increasingly positive reviews that supported such fantastical claims for this product, until I began having safety issues with my units and really dug deeper. I noticed many people were having the same problems with their units too. Problems with the sensors not stopping mid cycle when my 16lb cat or kittens were inside, dumping litter onto my floor because it spun 360 degrees which it is NOT supposed to do, chunks of solid waste falling into the edges under the drum, dumping new fresh litter into the bin, the filter coming off during use with cat inside, etc. I purchased TWO (2) of these units and BOTH broke within 22 days! That is not small amount of money to shell out! I also figured out that these units are sold by the same seller at the same location just under different “store” names… and several names at that! The product gets delivered in the exact same box, same packaging and identical flyers inside despite appearing to be from different seller stores on Amazon. Don’t be fooled by all the stellar reviews and seemingly spectacular performance buyers initially experience, I was one of them! I learned from experience here!. These units WILL break quickly, are an absolute b*#@h to clean, and the seller will claim they’ve received back faulty goods damaged by the purchaser in order to attempt getting away with not reimbursing full price for the unit. The item will display on your account as returned and fully refunded only for the invoice provided by the seller and your bank to state otherwise! Like I wouldn’t notice that?!…C’mon people! Meanwhile, your out hundreds of dollars, if not more, while this seller most likely attempts to resell the faulty product you just returned for multiple function failures after they refurbish it. These units are large and relatively awkward to move and clean, but I scrubbed my units for several hours EACH and then sanitized them after that in order to prep them for return. This seller had the gall to claim they were heavily soiled and irreparably damaged. While some people may try to get away with something like that, I am not one of them! This was not even close to being the truth here. I do NOT recommend this product OR this seller(s) with their multiple product placement and variable price points depending on which “store” of theirs on Amazon you end up purchasing from. I’m not disgruntled, just doing my due diligence in passing on my experiences to save you all the headache! After all, I WILL get money money back and there is not a damn thing this seller can do about it. Please shop safely!————————————————————————-Initially I LOVED this thing! Finally after 43 years I had a self cleaning unit that worked, was easy to connect and maintain and all 4 kitties learned to love it! Now, 7 days from my return window I notice it isn’t auto sensing my hand when needing to scrape the inside to get an occasional very wet potty from my new kittens, nor is it sensing my 16lb cat! He jumped In, starting peeing and the unit started spinning. The look of confusion on his poor little face was deeply concerning. Not only that, the unit then spun all the way around in a full circle instead of spinning 65% of the way then spinning back to reset as it’s suppose to. What if my tiny 2lb babies are in there and it starts moving, they don’t get out in time only to slide into the waste hole and get decapitated from the unit not sensing them and spinning back?! Nightmare scenario I DO NOT want to ever experience. Sending it back! Got a Popur box, gonna give that a try instead.
