There’s no battery and no capacitor, as someone else claimed. As long as you wear the watch at least 10 hours a day then you should never have to hand wind it. Moving your arm throughout the day causes a rotor inside the watch to turn, which winds the watch and will not allow the watch to be overwound by the rotor. Once the main spring is fully wound, it provides anywhere from 40 to 120 hours of reserve spring power (depending on the brand/model), allowing you to place the watch on your nightstand while you sleep or even put it in a drawer over the weekend, and the watch will keep running until you put it back on again. If the watch is stationary for too long and all the energy from the main spring has run out, then put about 5 full turns on the crown, reset the date and time, put the watch on and you’re good to go. The self winding rotor will finish winding the watch for you and keep it wound indefinitely as long as you wear the watch at least 10 hours a day. **Q: How do I stop the second hand to set the exact second? Sincethis movementis supposed to have an power reserve of 41 hours when fully wound spring. Eighter you are not moving your arm much or the watch is defective. I used mine black model now for about 2 weeks and it never stopped. I wore it now not for about 19 hours and it still runs. Keep in mind that the rotor on the back only turns at an steep 90 degree angle. The self winding weight will not turn on an shallow angle - so it winds only confidently with some wrist up and down movement. Otherwise this is the best watch ever for me. This is one vintage watch you don't want to miss, these are now no longer available except for here or perhaps someone else who is selling new old stock. The movement is the 7s26c. Does not hack or hSnd wind, but it's not supposed to, and it's supposed to be the way it is. It's the same movement as the skx 007 diver people love. It takes a knock. Anyway it's got the old fashioned "5" logo running down the dial in deep purple. You don't see it till it hits the light and the colour can make the dial appear black to purple in light. These older discontinued Seiko 5 watches won't come again, I have 5 Seiko 5 vintage ones. I would have had 6, buty son wanted a beautiful one that was in my top 2, so I gave him it and he loves it. Mine keeps brilliant time, and it will last a lifetime if you want to. Parts are plenty because of the brand, but In my mind, I had to get this. It's great on my 6.5 wrist. Very easy to size yourself by having a precision screwdriver or just that plain watch tool you always get with straps or micro brand watches. The bracelet is vintage rolled stainless steel and makes it very light. Anyway. I have pictures. These when they are gone, are gone. They are just bringing out the vintage snxs series movements again, so this will maybe come back, but you will not get this dial.the lume is really good for the watch size and lasts, oils in watches like this are non drying synthetic oils, and they are really keep fine. Old oils used to be animal fats, and they dried up, but that was years ago. This watch will run as good as it would have back when it came out. Mine is a October 2015 model. It's on the picture, the serial number on Seiko watches are able to be deciphered to what month and year they were made so look at my picture and you see it begins with what year number in the decade it was made, then you tell the numbers like 2 for February and on mine, it's an "O" for October. The movement is also revision c, which was the best finalised movement in this calibre. Great watches plus it has a display case-back with Seiko etched on the back plate and at the balance and stamped on the rotor, to show their movements branding. The new ones are only stamped on the rotor. Unless you are really spending a couple of thousand pounds. They don't make them like this anymore. I have some from 2012 and they work absolutely fine. So you want a stylish real automatic workhorse movement. This is in these Seiko 5's. Time keeping not the best but I can handle that for the price. Be warned the watch is SMALL. If you have bigger wrists it’s not going to look right.
