Honing oil is just oil. I use the DMT spray on a piece of stiff leather I glued to a piece of wood. A few strokes polishes the cutting edge. I strop my tools frequently during use, not letting them get to the point of being dull. **Q: do you use this spray on the "Coarse" side of the strop or the smooth side? I also want to use paste on my strop what paste is recommended?** A: Put this spray on the smooth side of the leather, is a fantástic product... and if I don't have this spray I use oxid chromium in sustitution diamond compound. **Q: Can i go straight to this after 8000 grit or should i got to the 6 and 1 micron paste first?** A: I use 6 followed by 1 micron paste on leather paddle-strops, then finish-up with the .5 micron spray, also on a leather paddle strop. **Q: how many carats in a bottle?** A: At .5 microns, the sum total of the accumulated diamond dust, probably would have zero 2 gram or one carat weight.
