Top notch, powerful flash gun. Pro quality at a good price.
Top-notch flash gun, it produces very well balanced illumination with the subsidiary front tube and is powerful enough to make bounce a workable option in most situations. Some have remarked on the speed of the touch screen menu options being a little to short to drop back to the home screen, but in practice I haven't found this to be problematic. The menus are very easy to navigate and intuitive in use. I used the gun whilst photographing a wedding in a very large dimly lit Victorian building with dark wood panelling and a three storey high ceiling recently and got some very attractive balanced lighting. The TTL metering works beautifully and recycling times are rapid with some decent NiMh rechargeables providing the juice.

What a brill piece of equipment and love it, I've always bought Metz
What a brill piece of equipment and love it, I've always bought Metz, however after finally getting into digital, had to go for a digital flashgun, so, after looking around at what I required from the equipment, I ended up buying the Metz 64 AF-1, as expected of the Metz company, they do have very great products, and the 64 is just one of them. Nice bit of kit, price is questionable, however, the quality and the superior quality speak for themselves. Given a chance I would go for this flashgun again.

A great flash unit.
The Metz 64 AF-1 is an awesome Flash that is more powerful than any existing Nikon flash. One or two reviews mention this being complicated - If you think this flash is complicated to use then you don't know how to use flash. It also works seamlessly with the Nikon Creative Lighting System (CLS) and its OCF infrared capabilities are far better than Nikon's own. If you're after a decent flash with loads of power that works well with Nikon CLS this is the flash to go for.

Not much use with flash modifiers.
Easy to use and powerful flash. Be aware though that the pivoting head will not support any additional modifiers that weigh more than a few grams. I attached a Lumiquest Big Bounce Diffuser for macro work and the head promptly dropped down. Seems quite loose with very little resistance. Mecablitz Service department informed me that the push locking button only locks the head in the directly forward position (both pivot and swivel) and the head is performing within design specification.

Great product, well build
Great product, well build, gives you great light, but one big issue.Overheats after only 15-17 rapid shots. Don't recommend for shooting events.
