A great choice!
This fits a definite very small slot in todays market for people with particular requirements:1- Grinds bean to cup2- Has a hopper on top for several days supply of beans3- Alternatively can be set for use of ground coffee (just don't, see below)4- Can be set for timed use5- Milk frothing not required. If you want frothed milk, use a fork to beat hot milk and save a fortune!I had the older version of this machine which served its purpose well. I was surprised hunting to satisfy the above requirements there were very few actual machines that satisfied my needs at a reasonable cost - some of them are atrociously expensive. I actually saw one machine at £1,799! This gives you lovely fresh coffee and whatever you want to put in it is your choice- frothed milk, cream, coffee mate (my preference) or just black. At £174 it will make a superb fresh coffee at 1/10th the price of the Super Dooper GTi wallet lightener coffee machine at £1,799! I don't bother with the clock/timer as I don't program it and I'm happy to make coffee while my breakfast is on. It is adjustable in grind level, quantity and strength. A machine like this glows with fresh coffee beans- I don't use ready ground coffee. Who knows how many roaches are baked with the beans and ground into ready ground coffee? Just don't!If you want a machine that does all the above, this one is good. Nobody can tell the actual difference in coffee from one machine to another, so the main choice factor is actually satisfying your requirements. It's Continental, not Chinese (I hope!), so the coffee must be good! Whoops! I have just checked the box.....it says 'Designed in Germany'. More Chinese stuff, but built to European standards. Get it now before they invade Taiwan and all their stuff is embargoed and the prices for European equivalents go through the roof! And Costco beans make the coffee hum- thank goodness coffee doesn't come from China as well (says he checking his coffee bags!).

Generally veyr good
This is a good product, it allows good filter coffee to be brewed either from beans or ground on a timer-which I love as get fresh brewed coffee when I Get up. The water filler is a little annoying as the top an end up in the water tank and is difficult to get out. Its easy to set up and use, and stays very keen. I am not commenting of the quality of the coffee as some have-simply as the quality will be more to do with the coffee you put in to it-not the machine. Its design site well on a kitchen top without taking up too much space

Initial observationsPositive :Colour display, adjustable brightness, sound level, clockTime settings / 2 options to set the timerGrinder - 11 settings plus 3 strength optionsCaraffe- keeps the coffee warm only for 1-2 hrsCoffee strength selection optionsNice aroma dependable on the coffee quality and freshnessCoffee machine size - reasonableRemovable water tankNegatives: Multiple issues with the grinder, despite all the adjustment settings , coffee remained corseand the amount of coffee beans used per cup of coffee .Because of this I decided to return it and look for more suitable alternative

Poor quality
This product is poor quality. We followed the cleaning instructions to the letter but had to return the original purchase because the grinder failed After returning it for a new one, the same thing happened again, and we are now past the return date, so we are left with an expensive coffee machine that does not work properly. My advice stay away from it or get the slightly smaller one without the grinder attached which we had before this one and lasted for years.

Worth the price
Quality of coffee beans used is most important. This is an excellent coffee machine , the grind direct to container is such a brilliant concept, resulting in no mess. This machine is so easy to use with fantastic coffee

Returned twice - two units failed for different reasons.
This makes good coffee and is a convenient package... when it works.Unfortunately both units I have purchased have been defective. The first one had a failed display backlight and could not be programmed even though everything was still working. The second has failed after only 3 weeks, it appears that motor for the powder chute has failed and has to be opened and closed by hand meaning that the automatic programme doesn't work (there is a chute position sensor check before it heats the water to make the coffee).Amazon has refunded me and I am now wondering what to do with the second unit... I will let Melitta try to fix it but in all honesty I am probably going to buy a Moccamaster and just grind my own beans manually. These machines are complex and have a lot of things that can go wrong.

Easy to set up
Great machine we bought to make mornings easier. The machine has settings for cups/strength which as far as I can tell only affects the amount of beans it grinds as it uses all the water put into the machine each time. You can also use ground coffee instead of beans. The timer setting was easy to use and keeps the pot warm for 20 minutes before switching off but needs to be set everyday. Very happy with it.
