But practice the strikes first. *by V***Y on December 23, 2024* This is a very useful kit if you want to repair any items of clothing or baggage (or anything else. This is what I use this for). The kit comes with instructions, but I found that there is a little technique to using this kit. I would advise anyone to practice on some spare material first.Making the hole for the rivet: Be careful. You do not have to hammer down like you are sculpting marble or a blacksmith. Start with small taps until you can see the cutting tool moving though the material. Guage the taps, you just want to make it through. Too much force and the tool body itself will begin make a much larger hole. This is where the practice beforehand helps. When you have made a suitable hole for the rivet, again the right amount of tap is needed to lock the rivet. Go light, and if the rivet doesn't seal, try again harder. Try too hard, and it'll be hard to go back if you damage it.It's a balance that is easy to get right. I've been making book covers and I added these on a few, and they look great! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very solid quality and value *by L***G on June 2, 2025* A very decent set. The rivets are the same quality I see in products I buy, so they are good enough. I have installed a handful so far and all of them worked just fine. To be fair, I was careful and didn't overdo it on the hammering, but each one turned out nicely and was still in the proper shape. It didn't come with instructions in a meaningful way, but there are many youtube videos and the process is mostly self-explanatory. Mine worked and they seem nice and sturdy. I did two initially to get the spacing right, so you can see that two are closer together than is optimal, but they worked and I learned what the closest distance was.I also really appreciated the variety of finishes available. I really like this sort of gunmetal color, but the gold and silver are very handy for matching to existing products.The hole punch that comes with it works well, but I would recommend getting something to place under whatever you are punching. Ideally it would be a poly block or something tough, but also malleable. You can also use scrap wood or scrap leather.
