The shaft/handle feels solid and not flimsy. It also has a rechargeable battery pack inside of the shaft. On the bottom of the shaft, there are sleek folded up tripod feet that when folded, are completely out of the way and not noticeable. The gimbal that attaches to the shaft and the actual scanner is high quality, feels strong, and made out of metal. Even the red tightening latch is made out of metal and felt strong when I tightened it down. It was easy to adjust even when everything was all put together. This scanner makes it easier if you have an Android phone (which I don’t), as you can attach it to the shaft and watch the scan right in line as you are scanning. This makes a huge difference in newer people trying to learn how to scan objects. Even with this scanner, sometimes you have to scan over areas of objects multiple times in order to get an accurate 3D mesh. HIGHLY recommend if you are scanning smaller objects (12 inches or less) to get a turntable that you can rotate as you are scanning. I did not have one to test with this device at the time of this review, but on previously tested 3D scanners, this was a major game changer. Accuracy: Accurate representation of objects is crucial in 3D printing and modeling, and the CR-Scan Ferret delivers decent precision. It is fairly accurate for the price. I was able to capture intricate details of the scanned objects. Like most scanners, there will always be some modifications you will have to do to the mesh structures to make it complete. There are tutorial videos showing step by step on how to get started. Additionally, the scanner supports multiple file formats, allowing seamless integration with popular 3D modeling software. I was able to import my scans directly into Blender and Fusion 360 CAD software and was able to start modifying the objects. The weight wasn’t heavy at only 105 grams. I also appreciated the design of the device being an “all in one” device which makes it less cumbersome. It has pretty accurate scans that are fairly quick. The dual mode capabilities and user-friendly interface make it a must-have tool in my book. The quality of materials that it is made out of is far better than a lot of the other scanners out on the market in the same price range. The carrying case is a nice addition as it keeps everything compact and safe. Do not get discouraged with scanning objects and the scans do not look complete, it takes time to perfect being able to scan objects and to capture the correct detail. As stated earlier in the review, try to place our scanned object on a turntable as it will greatly improve your ability to scan with more precision and accuracy. This works well. But it will not scan details on figures under 7". These scanners are just not there yet unless you get a laser scanner for thousands of dollars.

1. The unit worked once and then wouldn't connect to my computer or power up. Re-boot of computer got to where the computer recognized the camera again, but the camera didn't produce any image and the IR LEDs were dark. 2. The one time it did work it was exceedingly fussy and didn't scan the edges of a 4" diameter item I was using for a test scan even after several minutes. 3. This thing DOES NOT OPERATE ALONE. It is not a stand-alone scanner that you can use and then upload the results to your computer. You either have to connect it to an android device or to a computer. (Documentations says that it is compatible with IOS but the cords don't work with iPhone 13, so it could be with some other devices). I did not realize this when I purchased it and I don't want a device that relies on other devices to function. 4. As with lots of stuff from China, the documentation for this thing is practically non-existent, and what it comes with is jibberish. I well-written manual and quick-start would go a very long way. 5. I was looking for a tool and this is a toy. A toy that doesn't work. A $378 toy that doesn't work.

The hardware seems excellent and can make nicely detailed scans. The software is version 2.1.7 but seems more like 0.2.1.7. If you can get a scan in one pass, then you will be ok. If you want to merge a few scans, it is barely implemented. Even simple things like backing up a screen are not coded - there is not even a button to back up. How can you get to version 2.1.7 of software and not be able to exit what you are doing without killing the app? Now I am worried about keeping it because they could easily abandon this product without finishing the software given that this is not a major part of their product line. Also even if they did finish the software, I don't like the workflow of it compared to Einscan or Revopoint. It would be best if they just copied someon else's software layout and revised it.

The Scanner comes packaged neatly in a carrying case. you get a tripod that doubles as a power source, that is used with the triple-headed USB-c cable to connect it to your phone, there are accessories to mount the camera and phone to the same tripod for mobile scanning, and there is a mobile app, that has been improved with an update to the newest camera firmware, it does take a steady hand though. the face scan of myself shows it capabilities, the missing part is my beard, and learning how to hold scanner and self-scan, I got better scans of my granddaughter. when connecting to the pc with the newest software update and firmware I got better scans the first is of a statute of Plato, which I believe will get better as I practice my scanning techniques. the last 3 pictures are of a 3d printed torso in white PLA, the blue scan is the scan of it showing in the Creality scan software, and the grayish picture is the file imported into Fusion 360. to connect the camera to pc or laptop you should use a USB 3.0 connection and use the include 2 headed USB-c heavy duty cable (about 5ft long). Overall my impression is that it is well made; the company listens to feedback and addressed flaws in software and firmware. there is more tweaking that needs to be done, and scanning takes patience and there is a learning curve. I am pleasantly surprised with how well it works out of the box after using the newest software.

I so regret buying this. Unfortunately my work travels prevented me from testing this out until well after the return period, otherwise it would have went back. First I tried using my Android phone, which is a pretty powerful one...no joy! Then I tried a friends even more powerful Android... Nope. Next I tried a laptop that slightly exceeded the minimum required spec...Again - Nope! Then I tried a more powerful one (i7 CPU, 16gb Ram, 256GB SSD) Finally success. But that euphoria was short lived as now I had to deal with the very real scan quality and even capability limitations. I tried to scan a hub cap from a pickup truck with the hope of being able to print a replacement... OMG this scanner struggles with that. Next I tried to scan a large RC Airplane (6' wing span) as this is really what I bought the scanner for, it did better, but the darn thing keeps losing track of it's scan position and requires you to slowly backtrack so it can Hopefully find itself, but this fails more frequently than I find acceptable, and the scan still sucks. Anyway, I'm stuck with it and will figure out how to get the best that this over hyped piece of .... can give me, maybe I'll have some success using Scanner Spray. Well, I hope this review is helpful to someone. A good friend of mine bought a totally different scanner and he is super happy with it, maybe I'll put this thing up for sale online. Cheers
