Premium 56K Dial-Up Internet Fax Modem for PC Mac System - No Driver Installation Needed

I am happy with it. It works with the pre-installed Windows 10 software (Windows Fax and Scan) on my Dell desktops and my Toshiba laptops.A fax is pretty old technology. However, many tax authorities (US Treasury-IRS and state Departments of Tax) won't take email attachments. This modem faxes about a page a minute to Ohio Department of Tax so it's kind of a drag on multi-page transmissions. I did send 38 pages in one session, though (about 45 minutes!). The speed may also be dependent on the recipient so I cannot tell what is the limiting factor in my faxes.

I had set up my secondary computer, an early 2009 Mac Pro, with an older operating system (Yosemite) specifically to be able to use the fax feature of the older operating systems. It would never function with my Mac, so I returned it and replaced it with a US Robotics fax modem, which works perfectly.

This modem works with Windows 10 using W10's default Conexant CX93010 driver. If you're like me and bought a W10 machine recently, tried dialup and it didn't work, that's because W10 Build 1703 has a bug that gives modem Error 633 when you try to dial out. Microsoft released a registry fix for it in April on answers.microsoft.com (google "windows 10 rasman registry modem error 633"). This modem does not seem to work as well as the TRENDnet TFM-561U modem (assume still available from amazon). It seems to be a bit slower, both lights stay on all the time (the TRENDnet's link light stays on all the time but the data light blinks with network traffic which is nice) and it's physically a bit bigger. I'll park this modem and keep driving the TRENDnet.

I still have dial-up internet, so I needed a new modem, as 3 I've recently purchased have all lasted only a few weeks, then stopped getting a dial tone :( This one gets me online at reasonably fast speed, but not as fast as I'd like... Also, I couldn't get it to work on my Gateway laptop, even after putting it's Drivers And Utilities CD in my new external CD DVD drive... I MISS that laptop for online use here... :( It was simply plug and play on my HP laptop, but it also already had drivers installed for previous dial-up modems I've had that were EXACTLY like this one, but cheaper, so I'd say that's why it was just plug and play on that computer...

It did not work. I will not ever buy this product again.

I had something like this for my last computer and it wasn't compatible with Windows 10, since I still have a landline I like to be able to send faxes if I need to and this is great. I do have a fax program that works great with it and it seems to have no problems with Windows 10, just plug it in the USB port and let it do its thing.
