The Yellow and Black Attack of Strong Rock Covers!!!
Rock artists (band or solo) do seem to get a lot of "stick" for releasing a covers album, yet, if done properly, a covers album can be energetic and enjoyable! One of my favourite albums of the aforementioned ilk is Def Leppard's "Yeah!" which, on release, got mediocre reviews from the music press, yet it was a fantastic romp through songs the band had been influenced by and had grown up with...as I, guess, is Stryper's choice of songs on "The Covering".Kicking off with the brilliant Sweet song "Set Me Free" from "Sweet Fanny Adams" or "Desolation Boulevard" (depending on which side of the Atlantic you're from) this underrated classic sets the tone for the rest of the album which is excellently produced throughout. (If Judas Priest were to re-create their 1986 album "Turbo" with a more modern up-to-date production it would sound something like the first 2 tracks on "The Covering"!!!)On first receiving "The Covering" I played it from start to finish without checking the tracklisting, I knew this was a covers album and wanted to be "surprised" by their choice of songs, and I was! The only disappointment was Judas Priest's "Breaking The Law" which sounds a bit "lightweight" compared to the original.Oh and there's also an original song "God" thrown in for good measure.........which is classic Stryper!"The Covering" was a bit of a gamble for Stryper, ignore any criticism and embrace the album for what it is....definitely an enjoyable romp!!!! So, er, enjoy!!!!!!

The Covering - A unique homage to metal
When the term "metal" pops up, musically speaking, Maiden, among others, is immediately thought of. Having vaguely heard of "White Metal" or "Christian Metal", curiosity led me to Stryper. As a first timer to this metal genre, I was impressed by it! The genre's instrumental clout is kept; the only shift, which I welcome, is within the lyrics. These drift away from the usual general metal themes to a "Christian approach", as exhibited on their only track "God" throughout the album.Besides being impressed, I was also surprised when I realised that "The Covering" was not a mere cover act; It's a true homage to Stryper's hard rock/metal roots! Thus, the listener of this album is offered unique versions of "Blackout" (Scorpions), "Highway Star" (Deep Purple), "The Trooper" (Iron Maiden) or "Immigrant Song" (Led Zeppelin), among others! A true tribute to metal's history too! If you're a fan, a "must"in your CD shelf!

Fantastic cool album of cover tunes from unique band
Very interesting great new album from the classic metal band, now back and heavier. This though is a nice slab of covers of many mighty heavy rocking tunes from bands like Maiden, Sabbath, KISS, Deep Purple and Zeppelin. Really great heavy party rockin album!

when your favourite band records tracks from some of your favourite bands what is the outcome awesome i got this cd a few weeks ago from the stryper website so i have been listening to it flat out, i have to say i am not usually a fan of cover albums but this is by far the best cover album ive heard from any band it is well produced and the guitars are awesome really loud in the mix they usually stay true to the original song, for me the standout tracks are blackout highway star the trooper and breakin the law i have to mention highway star is so heavy with great dual guitars in the middle of the song so if your not sure i would say buy it now

Reborn again!
What a brilliant album... encompasses all of what made Stryper great in the first place. The choice of songs, the execution... the bloody marvelous guitar soloing!! It's like listening to 'To hell with the devil' for the first time all over again. Both 'Reborn' and 'Murder By Pride' seemed to lack a little something for me (though I don't know what).. but this is a well rounded and brilliantly put together album, with a great selection of classic ROCK tracks.
