Clever, new and powerful
It's been a long time since John Douglas has written a strong book, and I was delighted to find that this is his strongest book in years. I often have wondered when Douglas was suddenly going to run out of ideas to work from, when the Douglas writing well was going to run dry, and indeed, for a while it seemed that he was just running the same idea over and over, or running new ideas weakly. With this book, we get a nice taste of Douglas's profiling and an in-depth look at many cases that have bothered all of us for a long time in terms of their never having been solved.I found it very interesting that this book is so in-depth that Doulas even includes the Lawrencia Bembenek case, one that even while it happened, was mostly local in interest rather than national.Douglas carries us from the unsolved "Jack the Ripper" case all the way to the JonBenet Ramsey case, and shows us how he'd solve the crimes and who possible suspects might be. I find this clever and interesting writing. He gives powerful energy particularly to the Lindbergh kidnapping and the Zodiac serial killer, and in these two sections, he is at his best, and really gets the reader deeply involved and Douglas himself writing with great skill and powerful ideas. The only weak link in the book is the section on the JonBenet Ramsey killing, which section seems more like "In Defense of John Douglas's Profiling."Other than the Ramsey section, this is an excellent and even thrilling book, and the first Douglas book in a long time that I couldn't put down.

Food for Thought
There is one thing that stuck out of all the narratives of all the cases. They state that the killer waited in the Ramsy house for everyone to fall asleep, but they also state that Mrs. Ramsey was still in the same outfit as the previous evening. No way is a woman of that means would be wearing the same attire the next morning especially after supposedly sleeping through the night. And John does state that this is NOT an exact science and yet he then boldly states that certain things in behaviour just don't happen. And yet time after time they do.

Muderino checking in!
So if you don't know a lot about any of the cases in the book this is a good introduction into each case, and john douglas does a pretty good job of going into depth about each one. I didnt feel like there were any details or parts where I was yawning in boredom or wanting to skim until the end. The bits on the zodiac killer and lindbergh kidnapping were particularly good and went over a lot of stuff that MFM obviously wouldn't have time to cover like the mysterious german middle man, and all the (known) victims of zodiac. I'm sure there are MORE in depth books into each of these cases, but it was a thoroughly captivating read as someone who really only knew the basics of the cases. His jon benet chapter is a bit short I feel, but he still goes over some good points about the John and Patsy, albeit only barely scratching the surface about burke.

Another Good Book from Douglas
This is a very interesting book with insights and observations from a number of cases that have never been resolved. In a nutshell:Pros:Good summaries of interesting casesSome additional info/evidence that I'd not read or heard elsewhereQuick to the point applying his insights--easy to see/follow if you know his other booksCons:Some cases could probably stand to have a little more detailHe includes some cases and excludes others that should/could have been included--this might have been more effective as a series of books grouped either by timeline or type of crime, etc. It's an easy read but like his other books, it's blunt and graphic. Could easily upset some people. On a final note, his handling of the Ramsey case struck me as odd. He concludes the parents are innocent but based on the intimacy of the crime and some of the details it seems obvious (if you know his beliefs and methods) that the culprit was intimate with the family. That should narrow the list of suspects considerably but Douglas leaves it hanging. Or could he be saying that the parents knew who did it and covered for them? Is that where that very strange ransom note came from?

Meh
Underwhelming and not as many actual details from specific cases. I like the ALL the deets and this one lacked. I appreciate the opinion and great insight but I felt like the way evidence was described in most cases was lacking. Tedious at points but overall interesting.

Brilliantly written
I am fascinated by criminal psychology and the work of John Edward Douglas, I found this book to be both informative and respectful of the victims and their families - which is something I don’t find myself being able to say too often. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in criminology.

Fairly thick read
Book came in great shape. Pages are not folded crinkled etc, it os an average soze basic novel soze for adults but is thick as it is 500 pages and has some photos in the middle to add a imagery to the read. Quickly flipped through. Should make an excellent gift.

Excelente.
A pesar de ser una simple edición de bolsillo viene muy bien encuadernado, con un buen número de fotos y glosario. Si eres aficionado al tema este libro es un "must".
